The Illinois basketball team narrowly defeated Indiana. While center Mike Tisdale scored 12 points and had 7 rebounds, the frontcourt only received a B grade as they let their lead slip away. The backcourt received a B- as Demetri McCamey hit a game-winning shot but they struggled with Indiana's perimeter defense. The bench only earned a C- as forward Mike Davis saw limited minutes and the Indiana reserves outscored the Illinois bench. Overall, the team received a C because they didn't play smart down the stretch and had to rely on luck to escape without a loss when they were favored by double digits.

with Indiana, center Mike Tisdale quietly finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks. Freshman Tyler Griffey did nothing to get pulled from the starting lineup, and Bill Cole was solid. Backcourt: B- Demetri McCamey scored the game- winner with no time left on the clock, but the Illini were burnt by Indiana’s perimeter shooting. Bench: C- Forward Mike Davis, demoted from the starting lineup for the second straight game, sat for the first 11:30 in the second half. The Illini bench was outscored 28-16 by the Indiana reserves. Overall: C Because the going gets tougher next weekend, the Illini need to play smart- er. Instead of building on a 13-point lead in the first half, the Illini let it slip away. Illinois was fortunate to escape the day without a loss. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. When you’re a double-digit favorite, you shouldn’t have to rely on luck. Grades by JOHN SUPINIE
