Frontcourt: B+

When Mike Davis plays like that, the

Illini are a much tougher foe. But he
was the only player rebounding. He
needs more help from Mike Tisdale
and Bill Cole, and a few rebounds by
the guards wouldn’t hurt. Illinois did a
job on Purdue’s JaJuan Johnson, who
was 1-for-10 from the field.
Backcourt: A
Demetri McCamey showed that he’s
truly about winning. He didn’t force
shots when the Purdue defense was
built to keep him from scoring. He
had 11 assists at halftime. Guard D.J.
Richardson played a solid game, but
he had trouble with E’Twaun Moore
down the stretch.
Bench: B-
Other than a 13-point game from
guard Brandon Paul, there wasn’t
much from the bench.
Overall: B+
Had it not been for a weak job
rebounding and the Illini running out
of gas down the stretch — only six
players logged more than 5 minutes
— Illinois might have left with its
biggest victory this season. If the Illini
play with this toughness and intensity,
there could be good things in the next
two weeks. Upcoming games against
Michigan and Minnesota are must
wins.
