The Problems of Origens

Chris tol ogy
Aleksandar akovac
University of Belgrade, Faculty of Orthodox Theology,
Belgrade
Summary: While considering Origens Christology, one
must consider the fact that he belongs to the formative pe
riod of Christian theology, during which christological ter
minology was not yet developed. Therefore, the question of
subordination in Triadology is very complicated. Further
more, there are strong indications that Origens Triadology
could be understood as Nicene in essence even though there
are certain weaknesses typical for pre-nicene theology. Ho
wever, terminology is not the only problem of Origens Chri
stology. The crucial problem is Origens adoption of plato
nic dualistic ontology and the fact that Incarnation was
not crucial for salvation. The importance of Incarnation in
the act of Divine economy determines the place of Origens
Christology in the history of development of theology.
Key words: Christology, Origen, subordination, Incar
nation, soteriology.
