Weekly Learning Objectives

Language Arts This week we discussed writing a quality summary

for nonfiction text. We determined that a summary must include the
main idea, important details, and key words of the text. We
completed a 5 Ws and 1 H (who, what, when, where, why and how)
organizer to help us map out a quality summary.
Math - We continued our unit on geometry. We discussed acute,
right, and obtuse angles. We also started to use a protractor to
measure angles. We talked about important steps we need to take in
order to get accurate measurements of angles.
-Step 1: decide what kind of angle it is.
-Step 2: estimate the angle in degrees.
-Step 3: line the vertex up with the dot on the protractor.
-Step 4: line the bottom of the angle with the line of the protractor.
-Step 5: measure the angle.
-Step 6: Check that it makes sense.

CLASS INFORMATION
-On Wednesday, November 18th our class will be going to the North Carolina Symphony. We will leave school at 9:30 and should return
between 12 and 12:15. We will be eating lunch when we return to school in our classroom. Students are expected to dress in their
Sunday best. They will have a chance to change into more comfortable clothing once we have returned to school.
-On Friday, November 20th our class will have an opportunity to learn more about the North Carolina state symbols by making crafts and
listening to North Carolina legends. Students will also enjoy Dannys BBQ but their lunch will be paid for from class funds. We ask that
students bring a drink for lunch and wear their class shirts the day of the celebration.
-Please let me know if your child will miss any school Monday, November 23 or Tuesday, November 24 (the days before Thanksgiving
break). I will send work home with your child that needs to be completed if they will not be in school.
-Sycamore Creeks Spelling Bee:

The fourth grade spelling list went home today. Please review these words with your child.

On Thursday, December 3rd our class will take the written spelling test. I will call out 20 words from the 4 th grade
spelling list. Students who receive a perfect score will participate in the class oral spelling bee.

On Friday, December 4th students who received a perfect score will participate in the class oral spelling bee. Similar to
the school spelling bee, there will be rounds. Each student gets one word to spell per round. After each child has had a
word to spell, the ones who spelled their word correctly move onto the next round, those who missed their word are
eliminated. The process will continue until ONE student is left.

SCES Spelling Bee will be on January 29th.
