Analyzing my music scene!

The types of music I like

listening to are from the R&B
genre and mainly pop.
Archetypes/Stereotypes
Many R&B or hip hop
The image of ‘Trey’ denotes
artists are stereotyped as
the stereotypical gangster
looking quite gangster
look due to the pose and the

direct mode of address.
Similarly the image of ‘Alicia
Keys’ is also a direct mode of
address however her picture
is more invitational as she is
laying in bed or on a rug. We
can form different
connotations from this as she
is wearing a cocktail dress so
it could be suggested she’s at
a party or it has just ended.
Representation
Here Females within this genre are
portrayed as being flawless and
naturally beautiful. The image of
Keri Hilson demonstrates the
chocolate box image as she is
smiling but not too much
therefore it is quite friendly also it
is a direct mode of address as is
the image of Leona Lewis. She
represents more natural beauty as
she has her big wavy hair laid
across half her face yet she has
rather sultry makeup on since the
audience would be captivated by
her eyes. This could be seen as
being more invitational.
Associates with…
These images represent female
dominance (girl power). Beyonce is a great
female figure within the R&B industry and
has released many songs denoting her
independence such as irreplaceable and
listen. Destiny's child became a huge
success however the three chose to go
solo later in their career, again this shows
female independence.
Like these two girl bands there’s also the
pussycat dolls who are said to be
dominating young girls today, here is a link
to their song I don’t need a man which
suggests that women are fine on their
own and do not need a male figure in
their lives.
Mediation
Ne-Yo’s album cover show positive mediation. The selection of font, is his name in bold
and the album title in an almost calligraphic font. Also “Year of the Gentleman” gives
positive connotations as to how Ne-Yo acts, which we’d assume would be like a
gentleman.
The main focus in this image is Ne-Yo himself as the rest of the background is blurred
out and is therefore not in the same depth of field. Our eyes are drawn to him first then
the background
The organisation of this album cover shows Ne-
Yo perhaps entering a well looked after room
this could show his wealth, also his costume is
a suit which can also denote wealth.
