Nadya Patricia Sauza, 16

First steps

At the start of her first year in research, Nadya Patricia Sauza planned to pursue a study on Kakawati leaves. She wanted to help in the field of natural medicine and somehow give proofs that these folkloric remedies can actually cure specific skin diseases.
The Challenge

When the time came to choose who to go with in the final research study, Nadya decided to go with two of her closest friends.
Choosing who to be with was easy. Choosing which study to pursue, on the other hand, was a different story, she realized. Each of us has a very interesting research topic that it really bothers me that we should forego two topics in pursuit of one.

The Solution

Unfortunately, Nadya was not able to gather information about Kakawati. Instead, she found love with her groupmates topic: quails. They pursued the study on supplementing the usual quail feed with Thraustochytrids. They were able to finish their data gathering over the summer before their senior year.
I never thought that I would enjoy quails this much. Im really thankful cause I learned so much. For one thing, it is always important to cooperate with each other. Another is that there is no correct result, but always a true one, advises Nadya.

Nadyas group, along with two others from the campus, participated in the first-ever Philippine Science High School System-Meralco Management and Leadership Development Center National Science Fair last November 16 to 18, 2010.
Whats next?

Nadya will be pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degree in the University of The Philippines-Diliman Campus the next school year. She hopes to study Kakawati in her college thesis.
