Welcome to the last full week of January. This was a great start to 2012. We have been having a great time with our winter unit! Hopefully, everyone had a chance to play in the snow this weekend! The kiddos have been doing a really great job of printing their names. I can tell they have been practicing a lot! We will continue to practice printing first names and last names. In Math, we will continue to practice counting and making numbers. We are also working very hard on learning our facts to five. We have been playing many fun math games to practice our facts, count, and make numbers. Our new word wall words will be not, we, and with. We will look at the -en word family. We have been reading a lot of books about winter and snow and working on skills such as prediction, comprehension, and identifying characters, setting, and the problem of a story. We have been finding lots of word wall words in the stories as well.

We will start talking about penguins this week. We will discuss penguin chicks and how the fathers take care of the eggs until they hatch while the mothers go and get food for many weeks! This week we will start talking about different kinds of penguins.
