Hockeys happening
The Glasgow 14U and 19U girls hockey players have been
busy soliciting local businesses to support their upcoming
state tournaments which will be held February 20-22 at the
Valley Event Center. Their tournament book will be in full
color! We caught up with the young sales ladies giving the
pitch to Doug Wixson at Treasure Trail Meat Processing:
a pretty easy sale considering Doug is a strong supporter
of HiLine Youth Hockey. Back row (left to right) are Amy
Lawrence, Maddy Uphaus, Jaycee Wixson and Doug.
Front row are Shanice Lagerquist, Tatum Provencher and
Kylie Lagerquist. If you would like to support the Montana
14U and 19U Girls State Tournaments in Glasgow but
have not yet been contacted by the Ice Dawgs, call (406)
263-4512. These tournaments will be bringing numerous
teams and their followers along with a nice economic
boost to Glasgow.

Senator Brenden reports from Helena

The Governor has put forth a

grand scheme in his Big bill of some
$390 million for everything from
soup to nuts for public works!
It would include bonding for
over $210 million for infrastructure.
The bonding bill would include
about $10.5 million for land
purchases, $12 million for sage
grouse habitat, another $15 million
for other fish and wildlife programs
and this does not include the $6
million for land purchases in the
Fish, Wildlife & Parks budget plus a
$6 million increase in FWP licenses!
This is almost $50 million and he
calls this infrastructure!

In the 2013 session the Governor
vetoed a bill that would have given
$35 million to impacted resource
counties and that bill passed 142
to 8!! Some of us Republicans are
working on our own infrastructure
bill and I have one that is in the
works now. More on these as they
are drafted.
I have a bill in the hopper that
the County Commissioners would

have to okay any Yellowstone bison

translocation to their county. Local
control is very important. Another
bill I have today is the one requiring
Supreme Court Justices and District
Court Justices have to do the same
reporting to the commissioner of
political practices as we legislators
do.
The potential listing of the sage
grouse by the federal government is
nothing but blackmail by the feds
and a taking of private property
rights! I have a bill that would ban
sage grouse hunting in Montana
if that might stop a listing. There
is no shortage of this tough bird
in Montana and to start a listing
the feds do not even count birds of
prey and small four-legged animals
as being a detriment to the species.
Will the Federal Government come
to its senses?
All for now and more next
week. My email is senatorbrenden@
gmail.com. Thank you and have a
great week.

~ Sen. John C. Brenden

Senator John Brenden has a massive

Senate District (SD 18) that goes from
the North Dakota border to north of
Hingham. He has 285 miles of the 545
miles of the U.S./Canadian border and
it equates to 52% of the border. The
Montana Legislature is now at the start
of the third week of the session and the
bills and meetings will come in a fast
and furious way. Please give John a
call if you go to Helena. He especially
likes to have school and other related
groups come and visit so they may be
introduced to the Senate.

The Thingy

God was just about

done creating humans, but
he had two parts left over
and couldnt quite decide
how to split them between
Adam and Eve. He thought
He might just as well ask
them.
He told them one of
the things He had left was a
thing that would allow the
owner to pee while standing
up. Its a very handy thing,
God told them, and I was
wondering if either one of
you had a preference for it.
Well, Adam jumped
up and down and begged,
Oh, please give that to me!
Id love to be able to do that!
It seems like just the sort of
thing a man should have.
Please! Pleeease! Give it to
me!

On and on he went like
an excited little boy.
Eve just smiled and
told God that if Adam really
wanted it so badly, he could
have it. So God gave Adam
the thing that allowed him
to pee standing up.
Adam was so excited
he just started whizzing
all over the place - first on
the side of a rock, then he
wrote his name in the sand,
and then he tried to see if
he could hit a stump ten
feet away - laughing with
delight all the while.
God and Eve watched
him with amusement and
then God said to Eve, Well,
I guess youre kind of stuck
with the last thing I have
left.
Whats it called?
asked Eve.

A Brain, said God.

Dont drink the water in Glendive

Truckloads of drinking water were being shipped
to Glendive yesterday after traces of a major oil spill
along the Yellowstone River that occurred this past
Saturday were detected in public water supplies on
Sunday, raising concerns about a potential health
risk.
Officials with Bridger Pipeline LLC of Casper,
Wyoming, have said the break in the 12-inch steel
pipe happened in an area about 5 miles upstream
from Glendive.
Preliminary tests at the citys water treatment
plant indicated that at least some oil got into a water
supply intake along the river, according to state and
federal officials. About 6,000 people are served by
the intake, Glendive Mayor Jerry Jimison said.
Officials stressed that they were bringing in the
shipments of drinking water as a precaution and did
not know yet whether there was any health threat.

Results of further tests to determine the scope of
the danger were expected in coming days.

Up to 50,000 gallons of oil spilled in the pipeline
accident Saturday. Cleanup crews trying to recover
the spilled crude were hampered by ice that covered
most of the river, making it hard to find the oil.
Initial tests of water supplies Saturday and
Sunday revealed no evidence of oil. But by late
Sunday, residents began complaining that the water
coming from their taps had an unusual odor.
Glendive City Councilman Gerald Reichert said
he first noticed an odor in the water at his house
Sunday night. He said it smelled like diesel fuel.

Be responsible with bait fish

Winter Anglers Can Help

to Protect Montanas Waters

Montanas fishing regulations restrict anglers from

importing live bait fish into Montana. It is also illegal to
release live bait fish of any kind into Montana waters.
Bait fish and the water they are contained in can
carry disease, invasive species or foreign organisms. If
released into a body of water the biological impacts can
be devastating and irreversible.
It is illegal to move bait fish between states, said
Eileen Ryce, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks.
While this regulation is particularly easy to forget
for anglers who may cross state lines during a single
fishing trip, it is critical these days that we all take
responsibility for monitoring our use of bait fish.

For details on the use of live bait in Montana check
the Montana fishing regulations online at fwp.mt.gov;
click Fishing. Ryce said anglers should dispose of live
bait in a zip-lock bag that is put into a landfill or in a
garbage bag bound for a landfill site.

That explains it...

A couple purchased an old home in northeast

Montana from two elderly sisters. Winter was fast
approaching and the Mrs. was concerned about the
houses lack of insulation.
If they could live here all those years, so can we!
the husband confidently declared.
One November night the temperature plunged
to below zero, and they woke up to find interior walls
covered with frost. The husband called the sisters to ask
how they had kept the house warm. After a rather brief
conversation, he hung up. For the past 30 years, he
muttered, theyve gone to Arizona for the winter.
