"MEMBAKUT" comes from the word "BAKUT" which means "CITY" and the words
"MEM" is a word acts when combined "MEMBAKUT" means "TO CITY".
Membakut name, originally the name of a village inhabited by tribes of Brunei Located
along the river - about 5 km from the beach. Now the village called Kg. Brunei and
Membakut made to replace the name of the town's name was originally "BUA". The idea
of changing the name of the town and village is made by a society of the late Chief OKK
Hj. Summons bin Md. Jacob.
Sub-District Membakut begun to be recognized as Membakut Sub-District in 1977 and
was governed by the first Assistant District Officer, Mr Ibrahim Hj. Ahmad.
Small area population is very dense and first Membakut covers three areas of the state
assemblymen, Beaufort and Kuala Penyu Bongawan. Now only one assemblyman is
N.24 Membakut and Kimanis P.176 Parliament.
Membakut Sub-District includes 38 villages. Membakut Sub-District residents are from
various races of the people of Brunei, Kadazan, Dusun, Paitan, Java, Bisaya, and

and SJKC pei yin. I attended school in sk pekan Membakut from Primary 1 to Primary
Six and continue studies at SMK Membakut from Form 1 to Form 5. besides, there is
also a police post and a health clinic in the middle of town Membakut.
The people in my hometown live in peace and harmony. I love the peace and quiet of
my little hometown.
