GRAND KNIGHTS MESSAGE

Brothers,
I cannot believe that this is my last message. We did so many
things this year and the time flew by. May was another busy month.
We had our Night at the Races on May 6th. We had about 35 people
attended that night, and ran 6 exciting races which all the proceeds
are going to the Sunrise Fund.

In service
to one.
In service
to all.

May 18th was our Birthright social. We had 95 people attend

that night. I want to give a huge thanks to Benny and Joe for cooking
a delicious meal that night. And to the ladies, who run this event on
our behalf. They did an outstanding job packing the hall and
providing us with their delicious deserts.
Dont forget June 1st is our elections for the new slate of
officers. I would like to thank all my officers for supporting me in all
the events that we did this year. This year was very successful and if
it werent for all of you and the support of our members it wouldnt
have been possible. I would also like to thank the slate of officers for
coming forward next year to lead our council for another great year.
I would like to congratulate Tomas DAchille, he made his 1st
degree on May 16th.
The Chapter Charity Ball is June 26th at the Watermill in
Smithtown. We need to show our support for the Chapter. If you want
to go to the Charity Ball please let me or Paul Basileo know.

Hope to see everyone soon.

Respectfully yours,
VIVAT JESUS

S.K. Andrew Delligatti

Special Olympics featured unified games held on KofC field in Rome

The Knights of Columbus hosted a unique Special Olympics event, May 20-22, at the Pius XI Field in Rome that featured eight teams composed of
players with and without intellectual disabilities. Part of the Special Olympics European Football Week, the event was designed to break down barriers and offer a model for how communities can include people with intellectual disabilities.
Representing the Knights of Columbus at the games was Deputy Supreme Knight Logan Ludwig. The tournament, co-sponsored by the Knights and
the Italian Football Association, included four teams from Italy and one team each from France, Lithuania, Poland and Hungary. Players ranged in
age from 18 to 30.
The Knights of Columbus has been a supporter of Special Olympics since the very first games were held nearly half a century ago. Both in the United States and abroad, we have been strong supporters of these games and their clear message of human dignity, said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. It is particularly fitting that this year Special Olympics games will be held on our fields in Rome, since these fields have been at the service of the
people of Rome and their children for nearly a century.
The Knights of Columbus have been generously supporting Special Olympics athletes not just in the USA, said Tim Shriver, chairman of Special
Olympics International, who cited the Knights for their work across Italy, Europe and the rest of the world.
The K of C has been a partner of Special Olympics since the first games were held in 1968, with Knights supporting the organization at the local,
national and international levels. The Knights donated $1.4 million to the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles last year and $1 million to

support the World Games in Ireland in 2003. The Knights of Columbus has run athletic fields in Rome since the 1920s, when the
organization was asked to do so by Pope Benedict XV.

District Deputys Message

Brothers and Sisters,
June is here and with it, finally, hopefully, eventually, so will be summer! It also
means that Council Elections are being held. I would like to thank all of the outgoing Officers
for a job well done, and congratulate all of the incoming Officers as well. I know that you will
all do a terrific job!
Before the end of the Columbian Year, dont forget that there are a few important forms that need to be completed so that your Council gets all the credit that it deserves for all of the hard work that you have been doing all year!
This includes the RSVP Form, the Food for Families form, and of course the Columbian Award form, or SP7. If you
havent yet sent in these forms, please do so now!
Before I end my message for this edition of the Newsletter, I want you all to know how overwhelmed I am by
the amount of support that I have received from my Brother Knights and Sister Columbiettes these past few months. It
has been a very difficult time for me and my family, and I want you all to know that the cards, the flowers, the caring
kind words and the prayers have meant more to me and my wife Jessica than you will ever know. As many of you may
recall, my mother, Joan, passed away last November very suddenly and unexpectedly. This left my Father, Phil, home
alone in the house that he had shared with her for over 52 years. My Father was ill, but was determined to remain in his
home. My brothers and sister and I did what we could to make him as comfortable and happy as possible. But I knew
that it was not possible. He would never be happy again without my Mother. She was the most important thing to him,
and no matter how we tried, life had lost all meaning for him. My Father passed away on May 16 th, just 6 days shy of
what would have been their 62nd Wedding Anniversary.
The Doctors said it was the cancer, but we know better. So we take solace in the thought that they are reunited
again, to continue their journey together with a never-ending love. Again, thank you all so much.

The Theological Virtues
Charity
Charity is the theological virtue by which we love God
above all things for his own sake, and our neighbor as ourselves
for the love of God.

Fruit of the Spirit and fullness of the Law, charity keeps

the commandments of God and his Christ: "Abide in my love. If
you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love."
Christ died out of love for us, while we were still
"enemies." The Lord asks us to love as he does, even our enemies, to make ourselves the neighbor of those farthest away, and

Jesus makes charity the new commandment. By loving

to love children and the poor as Christ himself.

his own "to the end," he makes manifest the Father's love which
he receives. By loving one another, the disciples imitate the love
of Jesus which they themselves receive. Whence Jesus says:

- from The Catechism of The Catholic Church, www.KofC.org

CharityUnityFraternityPatriotism

"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my
love." And again: "This is my commandment, that you love one
another as I have loved you."

Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney

God, our Father, protector of the poor and
defender of the widow and orphan, you called
your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be
an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the
young to the generous service of their neighbor.
Through the example of his life and virtue may
we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely,
fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the
inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your
love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and
the outcast.
We humbly ask that you glorify your servant Father Michael J.
McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will.
Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make
your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Father, Hail
Mary, Glory be.
