Abstract
This article is written with the intention to provide information regarding how to prepare an
instruction manual or a course manual which meets the requirement of the university. Since an
instruction manual is one of the written document that each lecturer/professor has to compose in order
to demonstrate his/her expertise in teaching a selected subject. Further, the three arranged insider
committees will read the instruction manual and will evaluate the lecturers expertise of teaching this
particular subject. Therefore, writing the instruction manual is the first step of a faculty member who
wants to get promote to a higher academic position, such as assistant professor, associate professor
or professor. If the three insider committees evaluate the instruction manual as a fairly good quality,
additional submitted documents, such as published books, articles, and research articles will be sent to
the three arranged outsider reviewers to read and evaluate them. Thus, understanding how to
compose an instruction manual is very important. I will discuss, in this article, about two main topics.
First, issues that a writer needs to take into consideration for preparing an instruction manual. Second,
how to prepare a block plan correctly will be clarified because each topic in the block plan does not
stand alone but one relates to another. Additionally, to make this article easy to understand, an
example of written block plan has also provided.
