HW-1

Problem Statement
This is problem 7-16 from page 126 of the ENGE 1024 textbook.
A) The US currently imports 15.0 * 10^6 barrels of oil each day. If a tank had a
base diameter of 50 feet how tall would it have to be to hold this amount?
B) Mt Everest is 29028 feet, what would the diameter have to be to contain the
same volume if the
barrel were the height of Mt Everest?

Diagram

Theory
The desired volume is given as well as the dimensions of the bases diameter.
Since the height is the missing piece the best equation to use would be the
volume of a cylinder. But the volume is given in barrels and the base in feet
and so barrels must be converted into cubic feet. For part B the opposite is
true; height and volume are given and the base must be found.

Solution
Barrel =4.2 gal gal=7.4805 ft^3
