First Grade St. Viator School

What We Are Learning in Room 202!

Reading Students finished Unit 5 this week. Students are now focusing
on short and long vowel sounds and clues about how to decode unknown
words. Students will also be working on visualizing and drawing conclusions
while reading stories.
Math Chapter 3 is wrapping up. Students have been practicing making a
ten to add numbers to 20. Our last lesson will focus on adding 3 numbers.
Science- Chapter 4 is continuing with students looking at different animal
habitats. They are also learning about how animals defend themselves and
keep safe.
Writing- Students are working on writing opinion books. They began with
fact vs. opinion, then created graphic organizers about their favorite
activity. Next week they will edit and publish their books!

Homework

Please check folders and assignment

notebooks each night for new
information.
There have been some glitches this
year with Superkids. When reading on
the Parent Portal is assigned, if you
are unable to log on, you may choose a
book at home to read instead.

Other Classroom News

As the weather cools, please make sure that your students

sweatshirts and outerwear is labeled with their name or
initials.
We have started to implement a new reading assessment,
the DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment). This tool
assesses reading fluency and comprehension. We are also
able to use the scores to create meaningful interventions
and activities for students.

21- All-School Thanksgiving Prayer Service. 1:30 p.m.

22-24- Thanksgiving Break. No School.
2-4- St. Viator Winter Fest.
7- Potbelly fundraiser
7- 1st and 2nd grade class mass. 8:15 a.m.
