First Grade St. Viator School

What We Are Learning in Room 202!

Reading We are just finishing up Unit 10! Students have done such a
wonderful job with the first half of our Superkids adventures. They are
so excited to get their new book of stories next week. This week, we
learned about compound words, and some more rules for adding endings.
Math We are now in the second half of Chapter 5. We learned about
number bonds this week as a way to show related facts. Students are also
using all of their strategies to look at word problems and decide which
operation is needed.
Science- Our penguin unit is well under way! Students have learned many
characteristics so far, including where they live, what they eat, and how
the babies are taken care of.
Writing- This week, we worked on different types of punctuation.
Students looked at sentences and decided if they asked (?), told (.), or
exclaimed(!).

Eli!
Eli did a wonderful job with his week, in
spite of the blizzard we had on Monday!
He shared a special soccer ball, lots of
great pictures, and his mom read two of
his favorite books to the class!
Next Week: We will be taking two weeks
off, since the next few weeks are 4 day
weeks.

Other Classroom News
February 16.

Our 100 day was such a fun time in Room 202.

We read
several stories about counting to 100 in different ways.
We also did a super cool timing activity where students did
different activities (jumping jacks, saying the alphabet,
jumping on one foot) for 100 seconds to see how many they
could do. We wrote about 100s, and at the end of the day,
we laid our 100 footprints down the hall, and counted by
5s to 100. It was a wonderful day!

Homework

Students may complete all spelling

assignments in their spelling
notebooks. All spelling assignments
are due at the end of each week.
We will not have spelling words next
week.
