Cleaning up at Maag Amusement Park

We dont know who was crazy enough to lend Charlie

a four-wheeler with a snow plow, but it did provide
for plenty of Thursday afternoon entertainment at
the Maag Amusement Park located on the south
side of Glasgow! Charlie was getting it all cleaned
up for the big NFL playoff game between his beloved
Seattle Seahawks playing at the Atlanta Falcons.
He invites everyone to Maag Amusement Park for
the pre-game tailgate party to indulge in hot cider

Elk Management Season to Open

in Hunting District 680 and 690

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks has authorized a

management season hunt for antlerless elk in portions of
Hunting District 680 and 690, starting Saturday, Jan. 14 through
Wednesday, Feb. 15. Hunters signed up for the Hunt Roster in
those hunting districts may be selected for this opportunity.
A management season hunt is a proactive measure
to prevent or reduce potential damage caused by large
concentrations of game animals, resulting from seasonal
migrations, extreme weather conditions, restrictive public
hunting access on adjacent or nearby properties, or other
factors.
Basically, the main intent of the management season
hunt in 680 and 690 is to help bring elk populations in the area
closer to population objectives, said Scott Hemmer, Havre-area
biologist.

Landowners may become eligible for these types of hunts
if they allow public hunting during general hunting seasons,
said Hemmer.
Management season hunters are selected from the Hunt
Roster, which is traditionally used by FWP regional offices
to respond to these hunts with a ready-to-go list. Depending
upon their randomized order on the list, hunters registered
on the Hunt Roster were contacted by FWP via email or letter.
Hunters need to have signed up to be on the Hunt Roster
between June 15 and July 15 of each year.

Those selected hunters may harvest up to two antlerless elk
if they possess both an unused general elk license and an unused
elk B license. Hunters may purchase a special management
hunt B license at any license provider if they have not previously
purchased a general elk license and an antlerless elk B license
for the 2016 hunting season.
FWP would like to remind hunters that this is not a
damage hunt, with elk stacked up in concentrated areas.
Hunters should have means to retrieve elk over potentially long
distances. If successful, hunters must report their harvest to
Hemmer.
Hunting will be conducted in accordance with the 2016
Montana Elk Hunting Regulations, and will be allowed only
during times and in locations as directed by the landowner or
FWP staff. If there are any questions, please contact Hemmer at
406-265-6177, or email shemmer@mt.gov.

Three mischievous old grannies were sitting on a
bench outside a nursing home when an old man walked
by. One of the old ladies called out, saying, We bet we
can tell exactly how old you are.

The old man responded, There is no way you can.

One of the women said, Sure we can! Just drop your
pants and undershorts and we can tell your exact age.

Embarrassed just a little, but anxious to prove they
couldnt do it, he dropped his drawers. They asked him
to first turn around a couple of times and to jump up and
down several times. Then they all piped up and said,
Youre 87 years old!

Standing with his pants down around his ankles, the
old gent asked, How in the world did you guess?

Slapping their knees and grinning from ear to ear, the
three ladies happily yelled in unison We were at your
birthday party yesterday!

Two cowboys come upon an Indian lying on his
stomach with his ear to the ground. One of the cowboys
stops and says to the other, You see that Indian?

Yeah, says the other cowboy.

Look, says the first one, hes listening to the ground.
He can hear things for miles in any direction.
Just then the Indian looks up. Covered wagon,
he says, about two miles away. Have two horses, one
brown, one white. Man, woman, child, household effects
in wagon.
Incredible! says the cowboy to his friend. This
Indian knows how far away they are, how many horses,
what color they are, who is in the wagon, and what is in
the wagon. How does he do it?!

The Indian looks up and says, Ran over me about a
half hour ago.

Snow Drags this Saturday

The 20th annual Borderline Snow Chasers Drag

Races should have some good snow and temperatures
in the high teens this Saturday, January 14th in Four
Buttes. The track is set up just north of the Four Buttes
Supper Club.
Races start at 11:30 sharp with sign-up from 9 to 11
at the Four Buttes Supper Club.
There is a new starting and timing system which
shows elapsed time and speed to participants and crowd.
While KCGM will not be carrying the races, people can
still tune in to their FM radios to listen to the officials
and time results.
Following the races, at Four Buttes Supper Club
(between Opheim and Scobey), there will be lots of
drawings, including the grand prize of a 2017 Ski-Doo
snowmobile and a meal and then live music Blackberry
Band. It is rumored that Kent Kleeman will be on hand
to personally sign autographs.

Lotsa road construction considered

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT)
would like to notify the public and seek comments on
a proposal to shoulder widen and slope flatten about 1
mile of Montana Highway 24 south of Glasgow in Valley
County.
The project begins approximately four miles south
of Glasgow at reference post 71.5 and extends south for
approximately 1 mile, ending at reference post 72.5.
Proposed work includes shoulder widening and
slope flattening on the outside of the existing curve. The
purpose of the project is to address a crash cluster at this
horizontal curve.
Construction is anticipated by 2020 depending
on completion of design and availability of funds.
New right-of-way and relocation of utilities will likely
be required. MDT staff will contact all potentially
affected landowners prior to performing survey work
on their land. Staff will again contact landowners prior
to construction regarding property acquisition and
temporary construction permits.
For more information, please contact Glendive
District Administrator Shane Mintz at (406) 345-8212 or
Project Design Engineer Kevin Gilbert at (406) 4446230.
Members of the public may submit written comments to

office at P.O. Box 890, Glendive, MT 59330-0890, or

Opposition To Quiet Waters

Petition available for signature

A petition, known as the Quiet Waters Initiative, was

submitted to the Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission
this past spring by Backcountry Hunters and Anglers. The
petition states Montana has experienced advanced motorized
technology on its waterways, which has potentially opened up
waters previously thought to be unusable by motorized water
craft.

At its regular May meeting, the Montana Fish, Wildlife &
Parks Commission initiated rule-making on above-mentioned
petition.

Now there is a petition available for the public for concerned
Montana citizens who dont want more rules and regulations
brought about by out-of-state interests. The petition reads:
We the undersigned sportsmen and women, residents
and taxpayers of the State of Montana strongly object to the
consideration of the Quiet Waters request submitted by the Back
Country Hunters and Anglers (BHA). These recommendations
prepared and presented by out of state environmental entities
serve no purpose other than to restrict what has been traditional
access to streams and rivers to all of our citizens. A quick look at
the funding sources for the BHA show a concentration of out of
state environmental groups, such as the Western Conservation
Foundation and the Wilburforce Foundation behind these
efforts. Joined by the self-serving efforts of the fly fishing
businesses operating on our public waters, these proposed
changes would provide improved conditions for these operators
to exploit our fishing natural resource, and at the same time
restrict other water based recreational opportunities for the
vast majority of our States recreationalists. There currently
exists in the regulations protections from the perceived conflicts
described in the documents provided by BHA. Please reject
these recommendations in their entirety.

If youd like to sign the petition, it is available at BS Central
or stop by Hi-Line Home Programs.

Please RSVP 228-2208

Block Management works

For the 2016 hunting season, approximately 1,262

Montana landowners enrolled about 7.3 million acres
of land in the Block Management Program. Region 6
had 336 landowners enrolling approximately 1.2 million
acres in Block Management.
With the big game season concluded, Block
Management Program Administrative Assistant Bea
Sturtz (Region 7) sits at her desk, busily counting
thousands of hunter permission slips. The slips are
turned in by landowners participating in the program
that opens 2,290,000 acres in southeastern Montana
to hunting. Slips will keep filtering in until after spring
turkey season, when Sturtz will have a final tally.
It was a good season, she said. It was busier for
sure than last year, and we saw more hunters overall.
I think hunters were finding game; the numbers are
definitely up.
Most hunters were after mule deer, which are
rebounding well from recent lows. And although its a
younger age class of deer right now, hunters reportedly
were happy with their opportunities.
Block Management is heavily used by residents and
non-residents, but Sturtz still encounters misconceptions
about how it works. With another general season in
the books, she offered some suggestions that may help
hunters better utilize the program.
Access not about big bucks
Sturtz said the most common misconception is the
type of information that she can provide to hunters.
They assume that because were with Fish, Wildlife
& Parks, were going to know where the big ones [bucks]
are, but it has nothing to do with that. Were just here to
help people find access to private lands, and I think that
gets lost, she said.
Sturtzs assistant, Cori Enders, added, They want
to know where all the animals are, and the big ones, and
the biggest populations of animals, by species.
Hunters choose where to go
Some hunters say they will go wherever the staff
sends them, Sturtz said, but its up to the hunter to
decide where theyre going to hunt because its such a
big area.
The staff may ask people where they want to base
their hunt, how far they are willing to travel and how
much they want to walk, which can make a difference.
And they do call landowners throughout the season to

ask what

Three men, a philosopher, a mathematician and an

idiot, were out riding in the car when it crashed into
a tree. Before anyone knows it, the three men found
themselves standing before the pearly gates of Heaven,
where St. Peter and the Devil were standing nearby.
Gentlemen, the Devil started, Due to the fact that
Heaven is now overcrowded, St. Peter has agreed to limit
the number of people entering Heaven. If anyone of you
can ask me a question which I dont know or cannot
answer, then youre worthy enough to go to Heaven; if
not, then youll come with me to Hell.
The philosopher then stepped up, OK, give me the

A policeman was rushed to the hospital with an inflamed

appendix.
The doctors operated and advised him that all was well,

doctors hadnt told him about it,

Son: Well, would you talk to someone who is stupid, does
drugs, and is an alcoholic?

So Wanting to keep dirty old men out of the

discussion by making all bathrooms unisex one

the jobs this will create... (while costing taxpayers
