WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 11 , 2017

We emphasize the spiritual,
intellectual, and physical
development of each
individual.
This week we will be administering the IOWA Test of Basic Skills.
Students may bring snacks, however, they will not be allowed to eat while
taking the test. Please send drinks that can be closed when not in use. No homework
will be assigned this week. Please make sure students get a good nights sleep, eat a
well-balanced breakfast and most importantly, that they arrive on time this week!
Check our facebook page for photos of our first Student of the Week! Qualifications
for Student of the Week will be e-mailed this week. Be on the lookout!
Picture day scheduled for September 13 will be rescheduled due to IOWA test-
ing. The new date will be announced later.

MATH ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS

This week, students will delve
deeper into place value and the
fact that the position of a number determines
its value. Students will play a place value
game called Candy Rush this week due to IO-
WA testing. They will also be able to be place
value detectives. Please continue to practice
their basic addition and subtraction facts with
them. They will need to have a good grasp of
these facts in order to do well in adding and
subtracting greater numbers and for regroup-
ing. Tutoring for math is from 3:30-4:30 . Ti-
tle I tutoring will also be available soon.
This week in Language, we
will use our interactive note-
books to help with assignments
about common and proper
nouns. In spelling, students will be working on a re-
view lesson for Units 1-5. In reading, we have begun
a more contemporary collection of stories for our
unit on stories that are handed down. Be thinking of
a story that has been handed down in your family for
a future assignment. Be on the lookout this week for
their first probe book assignment! Students will learn
two kinds of poetry: acrostics and cinquains and
write their own poems about apples. Tutoring for
reading begins on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30. Title I
tutoring will be available soon as well.

HANDWRITING
Students will learn the correct slant, size and shape of cursive letters
and begin practicing writing I i in cursive.
 SCIENCE-This week students will do a phases of the moon activity, fill
out the study guide and take the assessment for the first part of their
Astronomy booklet.
RELIGION-This week students will learn about the second coming and
the final judgment. This weeks Word of the Week is compassion-having
concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. This Weeks Good
News comes from Matthew 18:21-35: Moved with compassion the
master of that servant let him go and forgave him the loan.
SOCIAL STUDIES-Students will compare and contrast a community
through time. How different is the community than it was in the past?
What are some things that are similar? They will also learn about varia-
tions in physical environment and human characteristics of regions.

REMINDERS
Get your volunteer hours by signing up to help at the upcoming Fall Festival. Virtus training
will be provided prior to the festival so that you will be eligible to volunteer at all school
events.
Join us for Family Movie Night on Friday, September 22 from 6-9. Moana will be screened and
concessions will be sold.
Please fill out the photo release form so that should your child be selected as Student of the
Week, we can post their photo on our class Facebook page.

Irish Gala
Remember that you will be required to sell tickets to the Irish Gala. Tickets are $50 per per-
son. If you have one student enrolled, you are required to sell $100 in tickets. For two or
more students, you are required to sell $200 in tickets. Also, dont forget to send in donations
for our baskets: Movie Night and Family Game Night. We can be creative with these items. If
you know of anyone who would like to be a sponsor, I will be including that information in an
e-mail attachment.
