B.T. Elementary Staff Notes from Tuesday, October 5, 2015

SWISS it the online data management tool to use for “majors” and “minors” for
PBIS. This will assist with identifying problem areas.
Students have come a long ways. We need to keep our expectations high.
Behavioral Referral Form-one form for major and minor is what some preferred. Lynn
prefers a separate sheet for each so easier for paraprofessionals to complete.
Behavioral referrals help get students the help they need through documentation.
The t-chart still needs teacher judgment. Can’t remind a child 25 times a day it becomes
a major and that is up to you. Teacher managed-minors including not complying with
teacher requests. Office management-major-abusive language, parents need to be
called even if they cool down right away.
Forms will be in the staff lounge and under PBIS on google form-where? Will make a
google doc. Karen Husmoen and Lynn Halverson will be putting the information in to

SWISS. Phone calls to parents are better than notes in the folders to par. Parents don’t
see folder every night.
Minors students don’t know they are getting. Teachers deal with.
Majors copies for office, homeroom teacher and person completing the form and parent-
quadruplicate copies?
Minors-paraprofessionals should be reteaching, have them redo, see that it is correct
and give feedback.
Three minors for the same type of behavior= a major. See if there needs to be a parent
meeting or “a student daily progress report”. After Christmas break out of PBIS there will
probably be “check in/check out”.
Minors not for academic things like assignment notebooks. For issues we want to track
like being disrespectful to teacher and unkind to students.
One sheet per incident. Maybe minors will be on quarter sheets later.
Monday start possibly completing the Behavior Referral Forms for Majors and Minors.
Recycling-heaping full. 6 graders or student leaders walk around and collect
th

possibly. Al and Luke said the recycling bins are in their room. Carmen said that it
make sense for the student leaders do it. Ned said he could do it. Cathie said that
Marshall can do it. 6 graders will start it.
th

Kris McNamer did get hired as a librarian and will be here 7:30-11:30 and has scheduled
a 30 minute block with many teachers. Schedule 30 minutes if you haven’t.
PAWS-Katie Belitz set up STAR groups for progress monitoring. Set goals.
*Kids are liking it.
Inservice:
*Teachscape is up and running. The invite for having meetings is not working so far.
*Teachscape will be gone after this year.
*Professional Practice Goal and Student Learning Outcome goals written on Friday
hopefully.
*Autism grant involves Lisa Nestingen sort of, Jen Murphy…
*Room Time-yea, there will be room time for teachers!
Concerns & Celebrations: We have a lot of good students here. We have one of the
best jobs on earth. Listen to the kids playing out there. Realizing how patient,
dedicated, hard working, caring the staff is.
PBIS climate is in the right direction. Bullying is going to be an issue. Need to make
kids feel safe and keep going in the right directions. It’s on the students and it’s on us.
High School is doing PBIS too.
Halloween Parties-parade from room to room including the high school and middle
school. Lynn will need to coordinate with Dana and the party coordinates with the
parade time. Sugar them up and send them home 2-3:06. Ned suggested doing like last
year when Mr. Thomley took all of the students into the auditorium for the whole
afternoon and teachers had off. Laughter by all.
