2017 OTA BLACK BELT CHALLENGE
The Ontario Taekwondo Association will be holding its annual 2017 OTA BLACK BELT CHALLENGE on
FEBRUARY 19 / 2017 Markham Pan-Am Centre, Unionville, ON please familiarize yourself with the
amended Provincial Team Points and selection process as summarized ON THE LAST PAGE OF THIS
DOCUMENT.. *Results will be eligible for submission for 2017-2018 Competition Season (Jan 1-Dec 31
2017) as an equivalent to a Provincial Event.
*Individual Recognized Poomsae Results from Feb 18, 2017 2017 KPNP Open will be eligible for
submission for 2017-2018 Competition Season (Jan 1-Dec 31 2017) as an equivalent to a Provincial
Event.
This event will be utilizing the KP&P Protector & Scoring System, and e-Headgear.. Please ensure that all
athletes in sparring divisions have their own latest version of KP&P sensor socks. These can be obtained

• Single Elimination
• Full head contact, WTF rules in effect. (Facemasks mandatory for Cadets-born in 2003,2004 & 2005
must bring their own)

• 1ST, 2ND & two 3RD places will be issued for podium finish
ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY
• Holder of minimum 1st Dan Kukkiwon. If Kukkiwon has been applied for but not yet received, please
indicate it on the registration with proof of submission as “In Process”.
• Current registered OTA Black Belt member in good standing and must maintain this through the
end of the competition season.
• Member of OTA member club in good standing.
COACH ELIGIBILITY
• Must be at least 18 years of age by the event date. Holder of minimum 1st Dan Kukkiwon. If
Kukkiwon has been applied for but not yet received, please indicate it on the registration with
proof of submission as “In Process”.
• Must be Dojang Coach certified and OTA Black Belt member and member of an OTA Member
Club in Good Standing.
• Coaches pending qualifications or in Trained status will pay registration fee per event.)
DRAWING OF LOTS – SPARRING

• Athletes who finished prior season ranked #1 and #2 in Ontario will be seeded in the #1 and #2
positions on the bracket if they are competing in the same age category as prior season.
• Remainder of the bracket will be drawn at random. Affiliation to the same club will be only done in
the opening round of the bracket, when possible (ranking / seeding may make this impossible
depending on number of athletes)

 Electronic Hogus & Helmets will be supplied-Please ensure to have the following mandatory
equipment: White V-neck WTF style dobok, white or clear mouthguard, armguards, hand
protector, groin protector, shinguards, KP&P socks,

participant under the age of 18 years old.
2. I understand as a condition of event participation as a coach or athlete, I must be a

current member of the Ontario Taekwondo Association
3. I am fully aware of the risks involved and the degree of fitness required in taking part in
this event. I accept that the event organizers and their agents cannot be held
responsible for any injury or loss, however caused.
4. I, confirm that the participant has not suffered a head injury or concussion within 30
days of this event and are cleared to fully participate in contact sports.
5. I agree to fully abide by the rules of competition as outlined and will maintain
sportsmanlike behavior at all times while participating at this event.

document.
7. I agree to allow the Ontario Taekwondo Association and their agents to capture myself
on still image or film for the purposes of promoting the Ontario Taekwondo Association.

2017-2018 POINT RANKING SYSTEM
SEASON
 No Carry Over from previous Years. Everyone starts at ZERO on Jan 1.
 All Identified OTA Provincial Black Belt events
 Participation at 1 (One) OTA Provincial Black Belt event to be included in Ranking System.
PURPOSE
 To adapt an OTA point system considering athlete performance and competition pool.
 Encourage Participation at OTA Provincial Black Belt events
 Identify active & current participants only.
 To minimize ties, and clarity of ranking are based both on current domestic results & pool of the
divisions.
 Identify actively competing participants in OTA Provincial Black Belt events
 To identify results in each category, and clearly define overall point holders.
 Select & Identify an Official Team Ontario and representation for various possible events.
(Tournaments, Camps, Demonstrations, Guest Speaking, Funding Opportunities etc.)
 Simplify Point Administration
SELECTION FOR EVENTS AS “TEAM ONTARIO” (PROVINCIAL TEAM- CADET, JUNIOR,

SENIOR & INDIVIDUAL POOMSAE)
 Tournaments and results will be tracked for Cadet, Junior & Senior Kyorugi and Individual
Recognized Poomsae
 Competition Formats may vary. (Ex. Cutoff,single elimination, double elimination, round robin,
repechage, and modified formats for Poomsae & Kyorugi. Format will be indicated on
Tournament Package.)
 2015-2016 #1 and #2 ranked athletes in each division will be seeded accordingly.
 Remainder of the draw will be random. Athletes from the same registered club/team will be split
in the first round of the draw only (when possible).
 Total accumulated Points from OTA Provincial Black Belt event circuit below shall generate 2018
