Teaching and Researching

International Law in Asia Conference 2018

20 to 22 June 2018, NUS Bukit Timah Campus

The Junior Faculty Workshop on 20 June is directed at exploring the challenges junior faculty confront
at the beginning of their careers in establishing themselves as teachers and in developing a scholarly agenda.
Participants are given half an hour for presentation and discussion. The time allotted will be divided into three
components –

1. the first part will be dedicated to speakers who will present their paper for 10 minutes
2. the second part will be devoted to a commentator, a senior scholar, who will respond to the
presentation and the paper for up to 10 minutes
3. the last part will be allotted to a 10-minute open discussion, which will be led by a fellow participant
who will be assigned to make an opening comment or ask the opening one or two questions

With this format, participants will have the chance to present their papers, serve as commentator,
and participate in the general discussion. Senior Faculty Commentators will be given copies of the presenters’
completed papers (no more than 8,000 words), while the other participants will receive copies of the
presenters’ final abstract (600 words or less) that summarizes their papers.
