COURTESY BEGINS AT HOME

Courtesy is the best policy. According to the wikipedia, ​courtesy comes from old French
'courteis' that carries the meaning of gentle politeness ​ or can be interpreted as
etiquette. It is also known as manners.​ Courteous behavior requires a selfless attitude
and can give you perspective on others' situations​. Examples of courtesy are treating
elderly with respect, use polite language when conversing and also treat others with
consideration. Courtesy is important as it can create a harmonious and peaceful world
for ourselves and the next generation. To make that possible, home is the best place to
start the campaign.

Parents should play their role as responsible partners on taking care of their children’s
growth. As parents, it is important for them to teach their children about courtesy.
Remember that ​children learn through repetition and modeling. If the parents never
model polite behaviors, children won’t pick up on them. Children are like blank canvas
that can be painted with any colors. It is the parent duty to guide them through
adolescence as it may affect their future. For a bright future, the children must know
courtesy because it will be use in all aspects such as work and social. To not make
them feel out of place, parents must show them the way of courtesy such as teaching
them table manners and also advising them to be kind to each other. This will lead to a
positive way of thinking and our children will be a wonderful person when he or she
grew​ ​up. Their way of thinking will definitely benefits the country and world.

Besides parents, older sisters and brothers should also help their parents in educating
the younger siblings about manners. In the current generation, many older siblings
never bat an eye on the younger siblings because they are busy with their daily lives. It
is necessary​ ​for them to care about each other as that is one of the acts of courtesy. If
the older siblings practice good values in the house, the younger siblings will definitely
be influenced by it. For example, the sister often used the phrase ‘please’ and ‘thank
you’ in conversations. It sounds polite and will be viewed as a positive act by the
younger siblings. Smiling is also an act of courtesy. Keep in mind that, a simple smile
may light up a person’s day. Indirectly, the siblings will grow closer and will understand
each other better than before. This will result the whole family to have a happy and
healthy relationship considering each of the members are positive and considerate. In
the future, they will always keep in touch and the family ties will be ensured until death.

Lastly, it is up to us if we want to follow the good manners or never care about it at all.
We must obey our parents. This is paramount. Our life may depends upon it. As a small
child must learn to obey a sudden order. A parent might call to us ​"stop,"​ to keep us
from running into the street when a car is coming, or to keep us from reaching toward a
fire or hot stove, or from approaching a strange dog, or, indeed, from any danger that
we not realized. This is eventually, if we obey their orders, gradually, when we are older
and ready to make our own decisions, our parents' advice and guidance will come into
practice. Besides, we should be considerate of our sisters and brothers. It is normal for
siblings to quarrel on different reasons and thus result to a long argument between both
sides. If that ever happens, keep in mind that when people live together, and each
person has their own wishes, courteous habits help to prevent quarreling and
unhappiness. If real differences of opinion occur, families should try to solve the
problems by talking them over. Often a solution can be reached in calmness.

As a conclusion, there are a lot of courteous actions that can be practiced in homes.
Each of the actions will positively affect the way of life. So, it can’t be denied that
courtesy is important in life as manners and etiquette are what that differentiate us from
other people and also show what type of people we are. For a better world, it is needed
for everyone to act courteously. If that ever happens, wars, hatred and loneliness won’t
occur or be felt by any residents of this planet called Earth. This world will be a better
place if everyone understand and help each other. To achieve that aim, we should start
it at home considering home is the fundamental place for the growth of a child besides
school.
