Experiment-I

VOLTAGE DISTRIBUTION ACROSS STRING OF INSULATORS

Aim: To calculate the voltage distribution across a string of insulators by


using an equivalent capacitor network.

Apparatus Required:

Procedure:

1. Connect the circuit as per the circuit by considering a string of


insulators

with Ce= 10µF, Cs= 100µF.

2. Switch on the supply and close the DPST Switch.

3. Adjust the variac output voltage position till the voltmeter reads a value
of 52V.

4. Using multimeter observe the voltage across each unit and tabulate the
values.

5. Repeat the above procedure for the following cases and note the
readings of voltage across each units for each case.

i. Cs = 47µF, Ce = 10µF, V= 40V

ii. Cs = 100µF, Ce = 10µf and V= 40V.

6. Bring down the variac to zero output voltage position and switch off the
supply.
