Document Development Exposition: Correspondence

ENGL 2116

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
In the planning of the email portion of the correspondence packet, I knew I wanted to write from the
viewpoint of a PhD student. But, I didn’t really know how to incorporate it into my topic right away.
However, I decided to illustrate the research and publication process from the sources that I used in
my white paper.

First Draft (for peer editing)

In the first draft of my email, it was quite easy to write. The opening of my email served as a brief
introduction to the PhD student as well as the issue. I had a supporting paragraph explaining the
importance of the issue and why it needed to be resolved. Then, lastly, I included a short final
paragraph that closed the email.

Second Draft (for your packet)

The email that I included within my packet was extremely similar to that of my first draft. The only
difference is that I received advice to make the issue more specific and direct, to which I followed.

Final Draft (for your portfolio)

For my final draft of my email, I followed the additional advice of my instructor’s comments.
