4 Shelter Installation
This manual introduces different installation modes for the three kinds of shelters
respectively.
The concrete foundation used for shelter installation is in one of the following two
structural forms:
The installation procedure of the base steel frame is basically the same for the two kinds
of concrete foundations.
The solution of installing the shelter at the top of a building is as follows (for reference
only):
Normally, each shelter is configured with three pieces of GB706-88 18# I-beams with a
length as specified in the contract (normally prepared as 6 m if it is not specified). The
use of I-beam depends upon the bearing capacity of the building.
1. Install the I-beams between two spandrel girders and the shelter on the I-beams
directly, and keep an appropriate distance between the I-beams and the floor.
Remember to prepare a certain number of cushion blocks or concrete piers for the
contact surface between the I-beams and the spandrel girders (this installation
method has a higher requirement for the bearing capacity of spandrel girders).
2. Join the I-beams to the spandrel girders at the top of the building. If necessary, the
I-beams can be welded to the main reinforced bars of the spandrel girders. After the
I-beams are connected to each other by using the reinforced bars, make a concrete
platform (this installation method can distribute the shelter weight uniformly).
The installation procedure of the base steel frame is basically the same on the
foundations in these two solutions (see attached Figure A.3).
Figure 4-1 shows the structure and assembly names of the base steel frame.

Figure 4-2 shows the installation flow of the base steel frame:
1. Determine the width and depth directions of the base steel frame according to the
overall layout of the site where the shelter is located, and specify the position of
beam assembly 2 according to the installation position of the air conditioner support
beam;
2. Determine the installation position of the base steel frame based the dimensions of
the concrete foundation and base steel frame, keeping it in the center of the
concrete foundation;
3. Put beam assembly 1, beam assembly 2 and two crossbeams at the related
positions to form a hollow square; align the installation holes at two ends of
crossbeam 1 with corresponding installation holes on beam assembly 1 and beam
assembly 2, so that the upper surface of the crossbeams and that of the beam
assemblies are at the same level; insert the bolts into the installation holes, and
tighten the nuts;
4. Measure the diagonal lengths of the base steel frame with a tape measure, and
knock the end with a longer diagonal by using a hammer, ensuring the dimension
deviation of the two diagonal lengths < 3mm. Then, use a spanner to evenly tighten
the bolts at four corners of the base steel frame;
5. Use a pistol drill to make a hole on the concrete foundation surface, put an
expansion bolt (with the nut removed) into the hole, and use a hammer to knock it
into concrete foundation;
6. Align the installation holes at two ends of crossbeam 2 with the corresponding
installation holes on beam assembly 1 and beam assembly 2, so that the upper
surface of the cross beam and the beam assemblies are at the same level. Insert
the bolts into the installation holes, and tighten the nuts with a spanner. Use the
same method to install beam assembly 3, and then install the support beam and air
conditioner support beam in turn. Note that the two support beams must correspond
to each other after being installed.
7. Use a horizontal pipe to measure levelness of the base steel frame. Insert iron
plates at the lower position, until the base steel frame is leveled;
8. Put the nut onto the expansion bolt and tighten it with a spanner;
Beam assembly 1 and beam assembly 2 for the base steel frame of big-sized shelter are
formed by two shorter beam assemblies (beam assembly A and beam assembly B),
which are connected with two pieces of steel plates by bolts. The specific assembling
method is shown in the figure below.
Main beam
connecting steel plate
Beam Beam
assembly A assembly B
Put the beam assembly A and beam assembly B together, and clamp them tightly with
two pieces of steel plates, make sure all the assembling holes are aligned. Put the bolts
into the holes and add nuts. Adjust the upper surface of beam assembly A and beam
assembly B to the same level, and tighten the bolts by spanner. Use the same method to
finish the assemblies of beam assembly 1 and beam assembly 2 respectively.
1. Check whether all the connecting bolts and expansion bolts are tightened securely;
2. Check whether the galvanized coat of the base steel frame is damaged, if yes,
repair the damaged part with refinishing paint;
3. Check whether the diagonal dimensions and levelness of base steel frame are
qualified (diagonal dimension deviation should be less than 3mm, levelness
deviation less than 2mm).
2. In installation, tear off the protection membrane at insertion joints, U-groove joints
and connections of angle aluminum columns, so that the protection membrane can
be removed easily at the end. However, do not remove the protection membrane
completely at this moment, lest the wall board would be damaged during the
installation;
3. Make sure that the wall boards at the four corners are perpendicular to each other;.
5. Insert the wall boards in clockwise or anticlockwise sequence (insert the convex end
into the concave end) which is marked on the drawings and wall boards (the
drawing is in the accessories box usually). This method can be used to insert the
boards and control dimensions easily. For the marks on the drawing and dimension
specifications, see the figure and table below:
1. Take out the U-groove, remove the gummed paper, and specify the laying position
of the U-groove on the steel frame (the indoor inner wall space of the U-groove is
the inner dimension of the room, with a tolerance +3mm). Draw a line and specify
the hole drilling position, as shown in the pictures below. Ensure symmetry of the
positioned U-groove;
4. Put the bottom boards on the steel frame. Make the bottom boards level finally;
4.3.2 Check
1. Measure the two diagonal lengths with a tape measure (the deviation of the
diagonal lengths should be < 3 mm). If the deviation is more than 3 mm, adjust the
joint gaps of the boards properly.
2. Use a level bar to check whether the bottom boards are level (the levelness should
be ≤ 2 mm), if not, level them by inserting proper spacers.
1. Preparation: Remove the protection membrane from the wall board. In the process,
do not raise only the side at the concave end of the wall board. Instead, hold both
sides of the wall board, to prevent wall board from damage;
2. In accordance with the drawing, apply glass cement inside the U-groove from one
corner of the bottom board;
3. Take a wall board with protection membrane removed, and place it into the
U-groove along the long direction of the shelter;
4. Take another wall board, and place it into the U-groove along the short direction of
the shelter;
5. Adjust the verticality of these two wall boards, and connect them with equilateral
angle aluminum;
6. Apply glass cement to the concave of the wall board which is fixed with angle
aluminum, and install the next wall board according to the drawing requirements,
rivet the top and bottom of every board;
7. Install the door: Insert the jointed board (at the door bottom) into the slot, apply glass
cement inside the slot for sealing, and insert 75# I-aluminum into the joint between
the jointed board and adjacent board. Drill a hole, and rivet the jointed board with
the adjacent wall board tightly. Take out the door (remove the protection membrane
finally), and insert the door assembly (including the door frame and door page) into
the wall boards, push it, and then install the jointed board at the door top;
9. Seal the four corners (between wall boards) with glass cement;
11. Installation of aluminum columns: Apply glass cement to two edges at the internal
side of aluminum column;
12. Install the aluminum column. Surely align the end of the aluminum column with the
bottom of U-groove, and rivet the aluminum column;
13. Insert the decoration bar into the aluminum column from the top down;
14. For the PCGS+EPS single-pitched top shelter, use a tape measure to measure and
specify the heights of the front and back wall boards as drawing requirement, decide
the slant lines of side boards at two sides according to the above heights, and mark
the slant lines at the two side boards; the lower end of the shelter must ensure that
the internal height of the shelter is not smaller than 2700 mm; use a cutting machine
to cut the board along the marked line. The side view of cutting surface is shown
below;
15. Install the top boards: Put one side top board on the framework of wall boards, and
then the middle top boards in the same way. Make sure that the gaps between the
top boards are narrow. Install all the top boards one by one;
16. Install the weatherproof cover of the EPS shelter top: Seal the gaps of the top
boards with glass cement, put on the weatherproof cover and rivet it;
17. The PU pitched-top shelter does not require cutting side boards, but it is also
necessary to ensure evenness for four sides of the top frame.
18. Install the top boards: Put one side top board on the framework of wall boards, and
then the middle top boards in the same way. Join every two top boards closely to
ensure that the gaps between the top boards are most narrowed. Install all the top
boards one by one;
19. Install the weatherproof cover of the top boards: Seal the gaps of the top boards
with glass cement, put on the weatherproof cover and rivet it;

marking pen to mark it.
2. Install the holders of the illuminating lamp, emergency lamp and outdoor
weatherproof sound-control illuminating lamp at the corresponding positions as
required by the construction drawing of shelter equipment;
3. After the power line enters the shelter via the power lead-in hole, the neutral wire
and lightning protection cable share the same line. While, the live wire first enters
the AC distribution box or distribution cabinet, and, after power distribution, several
lines are led out and used for illumination control, common socket, air conditioner
socket, fire control and other equipment. To reduce the number of branches, the
illumination and common socket can share the same line;
4. Installation and layout of the illuminating fluorescence lamp and common socket;
5. Installation and layout of the power cable and socket used for air conditioner;
Wiring of the air conditioner is consistent with the above method, except that
another live wire, another neutral wire and another protection ground cable are
connected. These wires and the wires in procedure 1 can be laid in the cabling tray.
6. Installation and layout of power cables for the fire control subsystem;
The layout method of power cables for the fire control subsystem is consistent with
the above method, namely, another live wire, another neutral wire and another
protection ground cable are connected. In addition, they need to cross one cabling
tray separately, and the cabling tray is laid close to the cabling tray in procedure 1.
Install and lay out the power cables for other equipment according to the user
manual attached to them.
Danger:
Prior to this procedure, make sure that the lead-in wire is not connected to power supply.
Hot-line work is forbidden.
Note:
1. Check whether the power polarity connections for all the electric equipment are correct,
and whether the operating voltage and current of the connected equipment comply with the
equipment requirements; ensure safety of the electric equipment to prevent equipment
damage and even a fire due to wrong connections.
2. After powering on the branches one by one, turn on the power control switch of the
equipment to check whether the equipment is powered normally.
3. Record the operating status and related parameters of each set of equipment at that time.
3. Connect the signal line (do not connect the signal line reversely; connect the wire in
accordance with the installation manual).
2
1. Lightning protection grounding cable: The model is 95mm and the color is yellow
green;
3. Use a pair of stripping pliers to strip two ends of the cable by 5mm, use a pair of
dedicated crimp pliers to press the copper lug tightly, and bind the two ends with
insulating plastic tape;
4. Use a dedicated bolt to connect the connected cable to the grounding copper bar;
5. Mains supply lead-in cable: The model is steel-band armored polystyrene power
cable with sheath (three-phase and four-line);
6. Strip two ends of the steel-band armored polystyrene power cable, use a pair of
dedicated crimp pliers to press the two ends with wiring copper lugs of the proper
size tightly, and bind them with insulating plastic tape; connect one end to the
outdoor transformer and the other end into the power distribution control box;
7. After connection, check whether the power supply phase complies with the mains
supply lead-in standard;
9. Cut off the power supply before connecting the power cable. Hot-line work is
forbidden.
Check and accept the shelter by item against the Shelter Installation Acceptance Report
(provided by ZTE).
1. Check whether the installation dimensions of the shelter and foundation comply with
the related requirements;
2. Check the shelter for the defects, such as scratch, corrosion and distortion, and
improve the defect (if any) by taking measures such as spraying paint and
correction;
3. In accordance with the drawings and list, check whether any part was missed;
