II. PROJECT RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES
Trees are essential to our world and offer a wide range of benefits to our environment.
The benefits from these trees spread far beyond villages to our homes in towns, school and
communities as well. Trees increase our quality of life by bringing natural elements and
wildlife habitats.
In the efforts to preserve, conserve and protect the environment, an idea of conducting a
tree planting activity came out. Tree planting is the most effective and relevant way to do it.
With tree planting, even a small effort makes a huge difference in leaving an on-going
environmental legacy in life.
Tree Planting Activity aims to raise awareness to the society in the importance of planting
and saving trees, express our concern to the environment, and diminish the unfavorable effects
of climate change. In addition, the activity enables great team interaction among the
participants while having fun and giving back to the environment.
With the aforementioned statements, the project leader is motivated to conduct a tree
planting activity among the parents and pupils of Labangan Elementary School at the locality
of Labangan Barrio Site. This activity is an environmental education project. By doing this
activity, participants will discover awareness on the importance of tree planting, and establish a
connection to nature and while learning what they can contribute to save the future. Thus, like
trees freshly planted, their work will pay forward the investment for years to come.
Furthermore, this activity raises the value of friendship, unity, and cooperation. Finally, this
activity is also our way of addressing and mitigating the effects climate change.

III. PROJECT DESCRIPTION

LABANGAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Bo. Site, Labangan Poblacion, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
e-mail address: 110252laba@gmail.com / Telephone No. (043) 742-6884
Pursuant to Republic Act 10176 or the Arbor Day Act of 2012 when then President
Benigno Aquino III signed into law a bill reviving tree-planting day, The Project Proponent
crafted the Project PATCHED (Plant A Tree as Community Hope for Environmental
Development).
This is a community-based project in cooperation with the parents of Labangan
Elementary School and a partnership with Municipal Agriculture Office of San Jose
represented by Melojane Aventura - MAO Barangay Technician of Labangan Poblacion.
This project is being made as one of the ways on how to mitigate the effects of climate
change. Since flooding is the primary mishap that affects the locality of Labangan Barrio Site,
planting a tree could be one of the best options to resolve it.
These trees can be used to mitigate and /or adapt to climate change. Based on the fact
that water run-off and erosion can be caused by climate change, the growing of trees can,
therefore, help to reduce run-off and erosion by breaking the force of rain and/or run-off from
uphill, thereby reducing the possibility of floods in the low-lying communities.
Upon realization of this project, the residents of Labangan Barrio Site could experience
the positive environmental benefits of planting a tree.
