2. Project Background
Pursuant to Republic Act (R.A.) No. 9512, entitled "An Act to
Promote Environmental Education and for Other Purposes", the
Department of Education (DepEd) urges teachers to lead the role in
environmental awareness by enhancing environmental education and by
pursuing effective activities that seek to preserve and protect the
environment. Republic Act No. 9512 was enacted in view of the pressing
global concerns and issues of the environment.
Barangay Dapdap is one of the premier barangays in the
Municipality of Mabalacat City. One of the effects of the population growth
in the barangay (specially in 7th Street Phase I known as Bunkhouse) is
the generation of waste. Some people dump their garbage everywhere,
not knowing the bad effects on the environment and health of the people,
especially on the community. Some children got sick because of the
polluted air they breathed in. So, there is a need to educate people and
take necessary actions to prevent this problem from worsening.
Cleanliness in the environment contributes a lot to maintaining a clean and
green environment. Cleaning and greening the community is a simple but
helpful way of improving a healthy environment. This is the purpose of the
project coordinator to ensure solid waste is managed in such a way that
protects both public health and the environment.
In this age of environmental concern, individuals are outwardly
interested in the healthy state of their surroundings. As populations
increase and we become more connected with our environment and each
3
other through global communication, commerce and transportation, that
interest also increases. Our desire for a clean environment represents a
powerful sense of destiny and hope for the future.
It wasn't long ago that the world was reported to have global
warming in its various natural features, as well as degradation activity
brought about by the population that needs to sustain their life-like tree
cutting for burning charcoal and firewood. This was one of the many
reasons that made us interested not only in showing you visitors the
natural features we have, but also in cooperating with them.
The environment is the most important resource for life. We get
water, power and oxygen from the environment. It aids in the removal of
pollution and serves as a large habitat for animals. The Earth is getting
polluted by poisonous gases and fumes made by cars and factories. A
clean environment is essential for healthy living. Air pollution can cause
respiratory diseases and cancer, among other problems and diseases.
Water pollution can lead to typhoid, diarrheal diseases, and other water-
related diseases. Therefore, we should keep our environment clean and
protected.
