PROJECT SUMMARY
The Project is located in Bendugu town, Sambaia Chiefdom, Tonkolili District.

The project was seen as a priority for environmental protection and sanitation enforcement for
national development. As sanitation is a problem especially for the school going children, this
project is aiming at providing dust bins, drinking buckets and kettles in all the existing schools
and around the township in the project area.

This project will also introduce tree planting and sensitization on the hazards of tree felling and
promote awareness among youths, school going children and the general populace on how to
protect the environment in the project area. This project will ensure that the youth in the
project area embark on drainage cleaning, market place and also ideal places that are sensitive
to garbage. The total budget of the project is Le5, 200,000 and this is going to be provided by
donors like business ventures in the community, stake holders, and private and government
agencies in the project area and beyond.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
PROBLEM STATEMENT

The project area (Bendugu) is a town whose population is growing rapidly as it is the only big
town which attracts people from the surroundings owing to the fact that it is a chiefdom Head
Quarter town. The need for a call to the environmental protection and sanitation practices is a
critical one.
Clearing bush around the township of the project area by settlers is alarming and the culture to
do tree planting is an abstract one. Looking at the number of schools in the town ship of the
project area and how they do manage waste around the school premises, need an urgent call.
With all these, there is need for this project to introduce the culture of tree planting by timber
loggers, school going children and the general populace in the project area.

RATIONALE

The project is vital as it will build capacity of local people to take active part in mitigating the
rampant tree felling and employ local and state rules and regulations in protecting the
environment. It helps to build the concept of safety through environmental cleaning such as
drainage clearing and a robust system of waste management, tree planting etc.

The township will be equipped with dustbin bins in order to control the littering of plastic and
other wastes. School children will gain immensely as they will be able to grab the concept of
responsibility of one’s environment.

PROJECT GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

The main goal of the project is to give awareness to the people in the project area about the
benefits of environmental protection and sanitation.

Below are the objectives

i. To provide dust bins, buckets and kettles for specific points in the township
ii. To come up with environmental protection and sanitation measures suited to the
people in the project area
iii. To promote hygiene and sanitation
iv. To create the playing field for the school going children to easily monitor their
environment
v. To introduce the culture of tree planting
vi. To put a a stop to indiscriminate bush clearing and burning
vii. To provide dust bins in schools and around the township in the project area in order to
control waste.

PROJECT OUTCOME

 The primary outcome is that the people in the project area will have access to dust bins
around the down where they can dispose plastic waste and other garbage.
 The schools in the township will have containers as dust bins, drinking buckets and
kettles.
  The culture of tree planting will be introduced
 Awareness on how to take care of the environment by the inhabitants will be achieved .

PROJECT DURATION

The project to yield a dividend should take six month period of implementation and with this,
the purpose of the project will be met.
