Abstract

This paper examines the various forms, functions and meanings of the

Jangjawokan from Sakerta village. Further, the main focus in this study is to know

the type of metaphor which is found in the Jangjawokan, and this study also to find

out the metaphorical meanings that appear. Besides, this paper is the result of research

using qualitative methods. The method used to collect data is document technique.

Hereinafter, the Jangjawokan of the Sakerta community is part of the oral

tradition and is considered a sacred prayer. On the other hand, the Jangjawokan from

Sakerta is a cultural product between the local beliefs and the religious traditions. In

addition, the existence of Jangjawokan is still needed by the some Sakerta people

until now. Thus, the use of Jangjawokan for various purposes is a portrait of the

pragmatic life pattern of some Sakerta people who still preserve the existence of

Jangjawokan.
