As someone engage in Art, what then for you is art

As an architecture student art is present on our daily lives and task, in every idea that we
have contains different kind of immaterial arts. For us personally, art is a way to express all your ideas and
imaginations in something that you created yourself. For art always occupy space in our minds,
appreciating it is the byproduct of our analysis on the artistic methods and techniques use on it. Observing
art can also make its observer philosophical. The idea that an art can evoke is the aesthetic experience
that the observer. Even if art can be difficult to analyze, art can still be classified in the form of visual,
performance and literally arts.

Being a student in the architectural course we are trained to make sure that for every project
that we create, we make sure to treat it as our greatest art. We strive to make our next work of art to be
the best one we created. In architecture we apply art to everything we do even the to the simplest details.
for example, every meter or centimeter of the structure is planned to be in a way that it will serve the
purpose of architecture, safeguard life, health property and public welfare. (Architecture Law,2004). We
use art to make sure that the sunlight will not turn our house into an oven, we use art in order to minimize
the amount of raindrop that will fall to our roof. In short everything about architecture and its process is
connected to art one way or another.

On our earlier year as an architectural student, we thought that architecture was all
about being good at drawing. We also thought that art is all about drawing and paintings but as we
progress to our chosen college program, we experience various things in architecture such as not just
being good at illustrations. It was all about your continuous hunger to improve the state of living of every
individual. The same can be said in art it is not about how good you are at crafts and definitely not about
how good you draw and paint. For me it is about how you accept the fact that there is room for
improvement, that your best work is not your best yet. On a different perspective of art, we once hear a
quote saying that money, power and authority are the things that makes our lives easier but art and music
are what we are living for.

In architecture, it is not rare to compare the quality of your work to the others. Even though
art is present in every architecture, there is a vast different kind of style so saying that this work is prettier
than the other work would be presumptuous. On the other hand, the artist should not force others to like
the art they created. This is true in architecture every architect has the right to think that their work is a
great piece of art so long as they don’t force others to like it. All in all, i can say that as an architecture
student art is necessary and It is deeply connected in our profession of architecture.

Criticism is a vital component of our art. Without criticism, our work will be bias and based
on the judgements and prejudice of our own thoughts. As an agent of art, architects must be in a constant
battle between what is beautiful and what is fair. This criticism are the driving factors that decides what

is beautiful and fair. A constructive criticism is much appreciated in architecture because it enables us to
grow based on ethical idea of what is good and what is bad for the profession.

More so, how will you given your current status, resources and setting (with the 1897 Constitution
having expressed provisions or Arts and Culture of Section 14-18 of Article XIV) facilities others to
embark various artistic discoveries?

Architecture is a form of art which are also protected by Law. As an architecture

student, we are taught about the importance of our profession in everyday life. Any typology of building
is a product of effort generated by architects and these efforts are well acknowledge by law. In response,
according to section 2 of the Architecture Act of 2004, the state recognizes the roles of an architect in
nation building thus, as a agent of art, we must embark the ideals of constitution such as fostering dynamic
evolution of Filipino National Culture.

Architects are sometimes put in a point of dilemma. This is because of the reason that
some Clients prefer newer buildings than old buildings. For example, the capital theatre in Escolta is a
National Cultural Treasure because it is a work of a National artist and was established in its current site
for more than 50 years. For this reason, it is quite unlikely for the building to be demolished but the city
government allow its developer to demolished this building. For our opinion, this act of ignorance and
shameless action done by the city government was the manifestation of how this institution was not
deeply rooted to cultural patrimony.

Legarda Elementary School Research Project

(2018-2019)

Educating the community is an effective activity to promote arts. They will listen to you and as an
architecture student, we were able to do this in certain part of our community. For example, we were
able to study the cultural heritage of a heritage school in Sampaloc. In that activity, we were able to
promote the importance of their school in a such, we have shared our expertise so that they will be able
to protect their cultural treasure. In that activity also, we just not foster the constitution but what N.U
also stands, promote dynamic Filipinism to the community.
