b) draft pattern for an A-line skirt; and
c) tell why it is important to draft pattern in garments industry.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Drafting skirt pattern for an A-line skirt
Reference: TLE in the Global Community, pp. 231-232
Instructional materials: PowerPoint presentation, tape measure, ruler, meter stick,
pencil, hip curve, pattern paper

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

What was our past lesson? Our past lesson was all about
different types of skirt

Very good. What are the different types of skirt?

 Full Skirts
 A-Line Skirts
 Circular Skirts
 Flared Skirts
 Wrap Skirts
 Umbrella Skirts
 Dirndle Skirt
 Pleated Skirt
 Gathered Skirts
Alright, who can give me the description
of an A-line skirt?

The silhouette of the A-line skirts

looks like the letter A. You can find
on each side of the hem that A-line
skirt have extra width, this makes it
look like an A when you view it
from the front or back side
Excellent! Are there any questions and
clarifications regarding our topic?
None, Ma’am.

B. Lesson Proper

Motivation

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

Class, have you ever wondered how skirts were made?

Isn’t it amazing if we ourselves will know how to do it? Yes, Ma’am

Well then, today we are going to discuss one of the

essential parts in making skirts. One of which is drafting
pattern. It is the first step in making skirts. From now,
you will learn how to draft pattern specifically the A-line
skirt. But before that let us read first our learning objectives.
At the end of the lesson, students are
expected to:
1. Identify the measurements
needed in drafting a skirt
pattern.
2. Draft pattern for an A-line
skirt.

3. Appreciate the importance of

pattern drafting in garments
industry.
Activity

Today, we are going to have various activities.

The first learning tasks are the following:

1. The class will be divided into 4 groups.

2. The group will choose a leader, and a secretary to write
down their members.
3. They will be recognized by naming and by shouting their
chant once their group is mentioned.
4. Each group will be given a box containing picture puzzle.
5. The group will complete the puzzle to reveal the picture.
6. After the picture has been revealed, members of the group
will now post it on the board and again will shout their chant.
7. A representative will present or say something about their output.
8. A maximum of 3 minutes is given for the activity.
9. The group will be rated based on the rubrics provided.

Was the activity interesting? Yes, Ma’am

How did you feel while doing the activity? I felt excited to reveal what’s in the
picture.

I felt happy that every member of

our group had cooperated to finish
immediately the activity.

Analysis

The picture reveals the measurements needed

to be taken and the tools and materials needed

in drafting skirt pattern.

What are the needed measurements to be taken? Ma’am, the measurements that are
needed are hip length, skirt length,
hip measurement, skirt
circumference and waist
measurement

Very good. How about the tools and materials

that are needed in drafting patterns? The materials needed are pattern
paper, pencil, ruler or meter stick,
tape measure and hip curve.

Excellent. Those are the things that are necessary in

drafting a pattern. Without these, we find it

difficult to measure the right measurement

in drafting pattern and this may lead to

inappropriate fitting on the garment of our

client.

Since we are going to draft pattern today, I have

assigned you yesterday to bring the tools and

materials needed for drafting pattern. Did you

bring these materials? Yes, we did Ma’am

Very good. Now you’re ready to draft skirt pattern.

*TEACHER’S DEMONSTRATION

First, you have to get ready with your materials.

Start your pattern in the corner of the pattern

paper. Mark this as letter “A”. Then, follow the instructions in

drafting skirt pattern.

(The teacher then demonstrates how to draft skirt pattern.)

(Students listen attentively while the

B F demonstration is going on)

Do you have any questions or clarifications?

None, Ma’am the instructions are

clear and it’s not complicated to draft
pattern for an A-line skirt.

Abstraction

In sewing industry, why is it important to

draft the pattern first before cutting it into pieces? By drafting pattern, the dressmaker
can break down the sections of the
garments and can save wastes of
cloth.

Brilliant idea! This step is essential to all dressmakers

and tailors especially those that are still beginners.

It makes them easier to cut the cloth because these

patterns serves as a guide in cutting different sections

of a garment.
Application

Second Learning tasks:

1. Choose a pair from your classmate.

2. Each pair will have to take each other’s body
measurement.
3. After which, you will have to draft pattern
based on your own measurements.
4. A maximum of 10 minutes will be given.
5. Outputs will be passed after the allotted time.
6. Points will be given based on the following rubrics.
