Narrative Report on the 3rd Earthquake Drill Conducted

In accordance to Division Memorandum No. 499, s. 2017, the CY 2017 3rd

Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on September 21 has been
postponed to September 27, 2017 at 2:00 pm. The conduct of the activity aims to test
the efficiency and usefulness of the preparedness response and recovery plans,
evaluate the effectiveness of contingency plan, test the coordination and communication
mechanism and understand the command and control mechanism in emergency and
disaster operation.

In response to the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED),

Sta. Cruz Elementary School actively conducted the activity with the full participation of
all its pupils and teachers. It started with a brief orientation given by the Bureau of Fire
personnel. It clarified some important things to do before, during and after an
earthquake and what to do in case of fire as a result of an earthquake. Pupils were
made to understand the relevance of “Duck or Drop, Cover and Hold” as one of the
precautionary measures to take and the school was advised to secure an emergency
alarm intended for earthquake emergencies and the like.

As to the conduct, pupils were made to return in their respective

classrooms. At exactly 2:00 in the afternoon, an alarm was made and pupils and
teachers all performed the “Duck, Cover and Hold” inside their classrooms. After which,
all evacuated carefully into their designated evacuation area and reporte. A follow-up
conference was then made which evaluated the strengths and weaknesses. The post –
evaluation has given everybody a chance to know how far the drill was performed and
at to what extent the safety and security was maintained.

The conduct of an earthquake drill in a regular basis is of big help in

instilling to the minds of teachers and school children the value of being prepared at all
times and at all cost knowing that an earthquake may happen anytime and anywhere. In
such,
