RATIONALE

Fire prevention is something

that most of us rarely give
importance, however, it is one
of
the most horrifying hazards that
are common in our home. I
would like to give some tips
regarding fire prevention in our
homes, starting with installing a
smoke detector or smoke
alarms. Specially in big houses
where you can’t see one room
from the other, this system can
help us prevent a bigger fire.
Next is know your exits, if the
fire can’t be contained it is great
to
have an escape route where the
family can safely go out without
getting harmed. Lastly is check
everything, this is the simplest
yet the most helpful way as the
saying goes “Prevention is
better
than cure” preventing the fire is
better than surviving one. So
check everything before the
worst
happen.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), through
the Office of Civil Defense, administered the 4 th , 3rd, and 1st  Quarter National Simultaneous
Earthquake Drill (NSED) .The national campaign is focused on increasing the participation of
the public in promoting both individual and family earthquake preparedness towards community
resilience, with the integration of public health measures and standards in the conduct of NSED
amidst the new normal. Employees including teaching and non-teaching personnel dutifully
participated in the online event, as well.

Several messages from officials and representatives of partner organizations and national
government agencies were carried out right before the ceremonial pressing of the button. An
entertaining video providing additional information on earthquake preparedness and earthquake
safety was played as well. The program officially ended following the closing remarks by Atty.
Tecson John S. Lim, Director, Capacity Building and Training Service, Office of Civil Defense.
In line with the campaign of the
Department of Education
(DepEd) in equipping
the school children with the
knowledge, proper attitude and
skills on what to do in
case of a natural and
man-made disasters like
earthquake and fire, San
Juan
Elementary School conducted
its quarterly earthquake and
fire drill in the school
campus last June 25 and
July 2, 2014 at exactly 9
o’clock in the morning for
earthquake drills, and 3 o’clock
in the afternoon for fire drills.
Dr. Virgilio R. Ayhon,
the school principal, led the
activity with the teachers and
their respective classes.
The drill was carried out
simultaneously and smoothly.
All grade levels occupied the
designated area for them based
on the school evacuation plan.
Before the conduct of the
earthquake and fire drill, Dr.
Ayhon instructed all the
pupils and teachers and even
parents in attendance after the
flag ceremony every
Monday of what to do in case of
a disaster like an earthquake.
On June 25 and July
2 during the morning break a
siren sound blurted for one
minute as a signal that an
earthquake is currently
happening. Everybody in their
respective classes ducked
and covered themselves under
their armchairs and tables.
After that, the teachers
led their advisory classes in
heading to the designated
evacuation area located in
front of the Principal’s Office
Building. They were grouped
together according to the
class where they belong. Then,
all classroom teachers did a
headcount to make
sure that all pupils are
accounted for. Mr. Arturo
Cruz, the school DRRMC
coordinator announced the
termination of the drill. In
summary, the drill was
successfully implemented
and nobody was injured
because the routines were
systematic and everybody was
cooperative during the activity.
