Lesson Plan in STATISTICS & PROBABILITY

Teacher: Gelyn F. Catalonia Learning Area: Statistics & Probability

Grade Level: Grade 11 STEM A - ZEUS Quarter: 3rd
Teaching Dates and Time: November 12, 2019 (9:30-11:30)
I. Objectives
CONTENT STANDARD
 The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of random variables and probability
distributions.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD
 The learner is able to apply an appropriate random variable for a given real-life problem (such
as in decision making and games of chance).

LEARNING COMPETENCIE(S)
 The learner illustrates the mean and variance of a discrete random variable. (M11/12SP-IIIb-1)
 The learner calculates the mean and the variance of a discrete random variable. (M11/12SP-
IIIb-2)
 The learner interprets the mean and the variance of a discrete random variable. (M11/12SP-
IIIb-3)
 The learner solves problems involving mean and variance of probability distributions.
(M11/12SP-IIIb-4)

II. Subject Matter

III. Learning Proper

A. Preparation
o Preliminaries (Prayer; Checking of Attendance)
o Review (constructing probability distribution)

B. Procedure

1. Activity
The teacher will present a table and the students will fill in the table by the
necessary data by following the given steps. Each will be given the chance to
answer on the board.
2. Analysis
Questions:
1.What does X represents?
2. How do you find the mean or the expected value of a discrete probability
distribution?
3. What is the value of the mean?
4. How do you find the variance of a discrete probability distribution?
5. What is the value of the variance?
6. How do you find the standard deviation of a discrete probability distribution?
7. What is the value of the standard deviation?
8. How important is the mean in finding the variance and standard deviation?

3. Abstraction
 Discussion of some important details and giving more examples.
 Generalization/Summary of the entire topic discussed.
4. Application
The teacher will group the students into three. Each group must assign a leader,
secretary, discussant and members. Each will be given a piece of paper containing a
problem involving mean, variance and standard deviation. They will be provided a manila
paper and pentel pen for their answers. Their output will be rated according to the criteria:

Accuracy - 25
Cleanliness - 5
Speed - 10
Teamwork - 10
TOTAL - 50 Points

IV. Evaluation
Direction: Find the variance and standard deviation of the following distribution.

X P(X)
1 1/7
6 1/7
11 1/7
16 1/7
21 1/7

V. Assignment
