WRITING ASSIGNMENT: Write one-paragraph article about similarities and

differences of families in your country and the US text length: 120 words.

Family is where life begins and love never ends. Families in each country have
differences and similarities.

Now, I will compare families in Vietnam and USA. On the difference, the first is the
family structure, in the US is a nuclear family, a family of two generations including
parents and children, while in Vietnam is an extended family, two generations or
more to include parents, children and grandparents, ... Secondly, give the children's
surname, in the US the children will be the same as the father's surname because
American women when they get married they will change their surname husband, in
Vietnam it is different, naming surname is agreed by husband and wife so surname
may be same as father or mother. Thirdly, the marriage system, in the US, there is a
"polygamy" regime is legal, men can get more than one wife and vice versa, in
Vietnam there is a "monogamy" regime. Fourthly, the independence, unlike the
parenting of Vietnamese families, is to let their children share a house even though
they have grown up, in the US, let the self-grown children move out of the house and
live independently, ... Regarding the similarities, the marriage of children is free to
choose, parents only recommend or comment. Next, about entertainment, hanging out
together on holidays, ... and even the same. about how to call family members, ...

Although there are differences in the family in two such countries, the family is the
place that will always protect and love us.
Gia đình là nơi cuộc sống bắt đầu và tình yêu không bao giờ kết thúc. Gia đình ở mỗi
nước có các điểm khác biệt và tương đồng.

Bây giờ, tôi sẽ so sánh gia đình ở nước Việt Nam và Mỹ. Về điểm khác nhau, thứ
nhất chính là về cấu trúc gia đình, ở Mỹ là gia đình hạt nhân, gia đình gồm 2 thế hệ
bao gồm cha mẹ và con, còn ở Việt Nam là gia đình mở rộng , hai thế hệ trở lên gồm
cha mẹ, con và ông bà,...Thứ hai, đặt tên họ của con cái, ở Mỹ thì con cái sẽ giống tên
họ của người bố vì phụ nữ Mỹ khi lấy chồng thì họ sẽ đổi theo họ của người chồng, ở
Việt Nam thì khác, việc đặt tên họ con là sự thỏa thuận của vợ chồng nên họ của con
có thể giống bố hoặc mẹ. Thứ ba, chế độ hôn nhân, ở Mỹ có chế độ “đa phu thê” là
hợp pháp, nam giới có thể lấy nhiều hơn một vợ và ngược lại, ở Việt Nam có chế độ
“một vợ một chồng”. Thứ tư ,sự tự lập, khác với cách nuôi dạy gia đình Việt Nam là
cho con ở chung nhà dù đã trưởng thành, ở Mỹ thì để con cái tự lập trưởng thành dọn
ra nhà ngoài ở và sống tự lập,... Về điểm giống nhau, việc cưới hỏi của con cái là tự
do chọn lựa, ba mẹ chỉ giới thiệu hay góp ý.Tiếp theo, về việc giải trí, đi chơi cùng
nhau vào dịp lễ,... và còn giống nhau cả về cách xưng hô trong gia đình,...

Dù có những điểm khác nhau về gia đình ở hai nước như vậy nhưng gia đình là nơi sẽ
luôn che chở yêu thương chúng ta.
