MOTIVATION LETTER

I am writing this letter to show my deep interest and passion towards the masters program in
Environment and Resource Management from your prestigious university. Post completing my
bachelors in Information Technology, I have been working in Project One Life (POL) as Content
Creator, wherein, I bring creative ideas to the table through which contemporary issues can be shared
with the world. Simultaneously, I am pursuing (distance learning) Post Graduate Diploma in
Environmental Law and Policy (PGDELP) jointly administered by World Wide Fund and National
Law University, Delhi. After completion of this course I will be able to better understand international
environmental laws, solid waste management, climate change linked with carbon offsetting and Clean
Development Mechanism (CDM), environment protection mechanisms, environment impact and
policy, biodiversity related conventions etc.

My predilection for nature prevails since childhood. Amidst the fun and hard days of school life, we
used to celebrate days such as Tree Plantation Day. I still remember planting Neem, Tulsi and Kidney
beans saplings and taking out time for watering them in lunch break. Similarly, in college days, there
used to be NSS (National Service Scheme) drives to clean the surroundings. When I was preparing for
civil services exam, geography and environmental studies were my main subjects, along with other
subjects like history, economics, current affairs etc. There were times when I used to feel low and
during such moments I started drawing flipbooks representing burning issues like sanitation, plastic
pollution etc. These activities are my go to place for rejuvenation and thus I realised my inclination
towards environmental management. In recent past, there are additional things that I have started
following, like gifting saplings on birthdays, avoiding single use plastic as far as possible.

Being an engineer, I have got analytical skills, during the last year of college I completed minor and
major projects, further the research paper was published on ‘Risk Mitigation using AI’ in International
Journal of Advance Research in Computer Science. Very often I used to visit Institute of Pesticide
Formulation Technology, one of the leading institutes of Asia wherein, I learnt methodologies for
estimation of pesticide residues in agricultural commodities and different components of environment
like soil and water by using advanced analytical techniques. I can use the aforementioned skills in the
field of environmental impact assessment for the betterment of the only home of the most intelligent
species. Gradual changes in climate like shifting of polar vortex, forest fires of the size of
Switzerland, heat waves, exhaustion of ground water resources in various regions and floods in Kerala
motivate me to gain further knowledge in subjects which are offered at Vrije University like current
sustainable energy technologies, research design and methods of environment and resource
management. This encourages me to come up with possible solutions to minimise the frequency and
damage of such catastrophic occurrences.

After travelling to 15+ countries, I have gained perspective on how countries take different
approaches for keeping in line with maintaining environmental sustainability. For instance, floating
windmills deployed in Hywind Scotland Pilot Park is a classic example of a unique approach to
maximize energy generation through renewable resources. Another example is of segregation of waste
implemented in developed countries like Netherlands and Germany which is yet to be undertaken by
developing and underdeveloped countries.

The end result after studying different subjects in this course would be to broaden my perspective and
to utilize the learning from this course in creating a positive difference. In the long term, I see myself
as working in one of the following organizations: United Nations, World Wide Fund, United Nation
for Environment Programme, IUCN etcetera. During my visit to Amsterdam I decided to study in one
of the reputed university of Netherlands, Vrije University being one of them. Further, the
opportunities and career prospects offered by the university keep in line with an individual’s dreams. I
would like to spread my wings in your renowned university.
