[INTERNSHIP COVER LETTER] April 23, 2013

Dear Sir/Madam,

Subject: Internship Cover Letter for Whoever It May Concern.

I am a PhD student in the CS department majoring in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Georgia.
I have a Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence also from UGA and a Bachelor's degree in
Mechatronics Engineering from SASTRA University, India.

I have been programming in C/C++ and Java for over 6 years and use them on a daily basis for all my
programming projects including my current PhD research and my master's thesis. I am comfortable
working in Linux/Windows environments. I have cleared the core competency requirements in
Computer Networks, Database Management Systems and Algorithms for the CS Department at my
university. In the last 4 years alone, I have 6 full research papers published in good international
conferences. I have 2 more that are being prepared for submission in the next few weeks. One of my
papers titled "Evolving Efficient Sensor Arrangement and Obstacle Avoidance Control Logic for a
Miniature Robot" was awarded the second best paper award for its quality and significance of the
research at an Applied Artificial Intelligence conference in 2011.

My primary research focus is in the field of autonomous sequential planning and decision making in
multiagent settings using probabilistic reasoning algorithms within frameworks such as Interactive
POMDPs. For my Master's thesis, I developed an approximate algorithm for a graphical framework
called Interactive Dynamic Influence Diagrams (which is analogous to I-POMDPs) that solves
reasonably large standardized problems by exploiting a unique equivalence trait called subjective
equivalence in the agent policies on top of the already existing/well-known behavioral equivalence. I
recently worked on mimicking true team behavior on agents using reinforcement learning, a direct
consequence of which extended the applicability of I-DIDs to Ad Hoc teamwork settings. I am also
working on scaling-up current methods to handle larger, more complex problems including scenarios
where more than 2 agents interact.

My experience as a Research Assistant in the THINC Lab at UGA, lead Web developer at the College of
Veterinary Medicine at UGA, and the various term projects in the courses that I have taken which
resulted in conference publications, have given me exhaustive insight into areas such as applied AI (eg.
robotics, machine learning, natural language processing, and evolutionary optimization algorithms)
and distributed systems, relational DBs like SQL and web technologies (specifically in the field of web
development, APIs like Google API, Analytics etc and SEO). While my resume (enclosed) summarizes
my capabilities, with my skills and work experience combined with an aptitude for individual and team
work, leadership qualities and quest for knowledge, I assure you that I will only be an asset to your
company and/or any team that I am assigned to.

I would like the opportunity to interview for the internship and learn more about your company. I look
forward to hearing from you. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Muthukumaran Chandrasekaran
