Dear Families,

In an effort to prepare your children for the upcoming state tests, we have
developed a fun game that will require your child to complete a homework
assignment each night.

On February 3rd, we will begin an oversized CandyLand game! Each student has
their own personalized gingerbread person that will move down the 5 th grade
hallway on a colored path. Every night, Monday through Thursday, your child will
be bringing home a passage with 5 questions. This should take no longer than 10-
15 minutes to complete, and students should be working independently,
underlining evidence of each question in the passage.

Each morning, we will review the correct answers to the previous night’s page. For
each correct answer, the gingerbread person will move that number of spaces down
the hallway. As they progress throughout the game, there are fun, CandyLand
inspired prizes! At the conclusion of the month, your child will receive an overall
participation grade for their effort.

We ask that you encourage and support them each evening as they answer these
questions. We thank you in advance for your support, and we are excited for the
next few weeks of CandyLand!
