A Detailed Lesson Plan in Math 4

I. Objective: At the end of the lesson, 75% of the Grade 4 pupils are expected to:
1. name different kinds of angles such as right angle, acute angle and obtuse angle
2. construct different kinds of angles
3. participate actively in group activity

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: Angles
Skills: Naming different kinds of angles
Constructing different kinds of angles
Reference: BEC-PELC III.A.2.2, 2.2.1
Materials: Colored name tags, strips, rulers, improvised protractors, cartolina, flash cards,
mat
Value: Cooperation

III. Strategy:

Teacher’s Activity Pupils Activity

A. Preparatory Activities
(Expose)
1. Drill

Class, I have here on the board pictures of

Angles. Now, who among you can give at Pupils raise their hands
least 3 angles?
FLA
ALC
YLF

Very Good! Okay, let’s look at the angles,

what do you think is the vertex of all the L
angles?

2. Review:

Base on the drawing, what are the parts of

an angle? An angle has two parts: the sides and the
vertex.
3. Motivation:
Okay, now that you know the different parts
of an angle. Let’s have a contest, group
yourselves according to your color. The
winners in the contest will have a prize.
Pupils do so.
B. Developmental Activities:
1. Presentation:
Our lesson for today is about angles.

2. Discussion:
(Explore)
Group Activity:
(Given time 7 minutes)
Pink Group

Instructions: draw Pinoy Big Brother’s house,

using only the rulers and the pentel pen. Pupils do so.

Green Group:

Instructions: draw a house where your pet dogs

can live, using only the rulers and the pentel Pupils do so.
pen.

Yellow Group:

Instructions: draw a big boat using only the Pupils do so.

rulers and the pentel pen.

Okay, now let’s ask the pink group to present

to the class their drawing.

(teacher labels the sides of the house)

Class try to look at the angle formed at the base
of the house. It looks like a square corner.

This angle is what we call the right angle.

What do you think is the measure of the right 900
angle?

Correct! Now let’s ask the green group to

present to the class their drawing.

(teacher labels the side of the rooftop)

Class try to look at the angle formed at the side
of the houses’ roof.
The new angle.
Which angle do you think is smaller, the right
angle or the new angle?

Correct! This angle is what we call an acute

angle.
What do you think is the measure of the acute Less than 900
angle? Is it greater than or less than the right
angle?

Correct! Now let’s ask the yellow group to

present to the class their drawing.

Class try to look at the angle formed at the side

of the ship.
The new angle.
Which angle do you think is bigger, the right
angle or the new angle?
Correct! This angle is what we call an obtuse
angle.

What do you think is the measure of the obtuse Greater than 900
angle? Is it greater than or less than the right
angle?
(Experience)
Now class, how will we know that the measure Use a protractor.
of an angle is 900? What tool will we use to
measure an angle?

(Teacher presents a protractor and distributes

copies to the class) No!

Class do you know how to use a protractor?

Pupils do so.
To measure an angle, place the arrow of the
protractor at the vertex of the angle and the
baseline of the protractor along one side of the
angle. Then read the number of degrees from Pupils do so.
the side of the angle.
Class let’s measure the angles of your drawings
using the protractor.

Now class lets have another game.

Let’s ask each group to have 2 volunteers in Pupils do so.
front. I have here some flashcards, as I flash
the cards you’re going to form an angle using
your bodies.

3. Analysis: Acute angle, right angle and obtuse angle
So, looking at your classmates what kind of No!
angles did they form? No!
Are the angles the same?
Do they have the same measurements?
Right angle, Acute angle, Obtuse angle
4. Generalization: An angle that measures 90o
What are the three different kinds of angles?
What is a right angle? An angle that measures less than 90o
What is an acute angle? An angle that measures greater than 90o

What is an obtuse angle?

5. Application:

Look at the drawing on the board. Name as

many angles as you can find. Tell whether the
angle is right, obtuse, or acute.

IV. Evaluation:
1. Obtuse angle
What kind of angle is in each number below? 2. Right angle

V. Assignment:

Make the following using cardboard or

cartolina.
1. Make 2 cut outs of acute angles
2. Make 2 cut outs of obtuse angles
3. Make 2 cut outs of right angles
