My name is Danika Acosta and I am applying for the open position in the new grad
program. I am graduating with my BSN from the University of Arizona in May 2020. I thrive in
a busy environment and feel my experiences have prepared me for a position in a med-surg field
in your hospital.

I have had experience in rapid patient assessments, evaluating patient situations and quickly
implementing plans of care to best address individualized patient needs. For example, during
one of my rotations in the emergency department, I had a situation where a patient was
deteriorating while on 8L of oxygen. They had a history of asthma and COPD and I quickly
concluded that the patient could be inhaling too much oxygen for their lung capacity. We
lowered the oxygen and the patient’s level of consciousness improved. Being a new grad and
having fresh knowledge and practice from various specialties of nursing will help me perform
the tasks that a med-surg unit needs.
