COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS
(On Fox and Scott)
1. Which is the primary source and the secondary source between the two readings? Explain
• The two readings that were written by Robert Fox and William Henry Scott both talked about
the Tabon man. By reading these two readings, Robert Fox’s work is the primary source while
the work of William Henry Scott is the secondary source. Robert Fox’s work is considered as the
primary source because of the date of his writing which is 1970. The way he presented his
findings seems like a personal journal wherein we can say that there was no bias. The date of
William Henry Scott’s work is 1984 which can be one of the things that can tell that his work is
the secondary source. The way he presented his work seems to be more formal wherein it is
somehow written for the readers to read and understand it. It is also written in an informative
way wherein it includes a lot of facts. Also, Scott’s work is somewhat written as his own
interpretation and analysis of many things that he has gathered.
2. Do a credibility analysis of the sources. Who between the two authors is more credible to talk
about the topic?
• Based from the readings that Robert Fox and William Henry Scott have written, we can say
that Fox’s work is more credible than Scott’s. The reasons why we can say that Robert Fox is
more credible to talk about the topic because he is considered as a participant or eye witness to
the event. Also, the Tabon man was discovered by Robert Fox and the date when the work was
written which is 1970 compared to 1984 of William Henry Scott can be a basis to say that the
work of Robert Fox is more credible. Robert Fox is an anthropologist while William Henry
Scott is a historian wherein by looking at their work, we can say that an anthropologist is more
credible to talk about the topic. Being an anthropologist who studies various aspects of human
from past and present makes Robert Fox’s writing to be more credible.
