Introduction

Introduce the document explaining its content, adding a brief explanation or summary about
what you will present in the following sections. (4 to 10 lines).
Questions: (write the answer in your own words)

1. In the context of Electromagnetic waves, what does “Open Propagation

Medium” mean?
For open propagation media, we can interpret what are those devices that transmit
signals, such as antennas, satellites and radars. With them we can see that they
carry out open transmissions with a certain scope, what you are looking for is to
cover large spaces.
2. In the context of propagation mediums, what is the meaning of “Loss Tangent”?
We can identify the relationship between current and displacement, whose value
depends on the means and the frequency of the signal. We can determine that the
loss tangent depends largely on the propagation medium.
3. What physical variables does the value of the Loss Tangent depend on?
We can determine that the physical variables, we determine them by the conductivity,
as well as the electric permittivity and the angular frequency.
4. According to the value of the Loss Tangent, how are the propagation mediums
classified?
We can classify the means of propagation as follows.
Perfect Dielectrics
Perfect drivers
Good insulators
Good drivers
Dissipative Dielectrics
5. What are the propagation parameters of the waves through a medium?

Application exercises:
1. Assume that an electromagnetic wave E of frequency f =112 MHz travels through
the medium chosen in Table 1. Calculate the Loss Tangent Tan (δ) and the
angle of losses δ. (Note that 112 are the first 3 digits of your identification
number).

σ σ
tan ( δ )= = =¿
ω ε 2 πf ε r ε o

σ 1∗10−3
tan ( δ )= = =2008.92
ωε π∗112∗80∗1 −9
2 ∗10
36 π

δ =ta n−1 ( 2008.92 ) 89.97 °

Tangent of loss is from 89.97°

2. According to the result obtained in point 1, classify the behavior of the chosen medium
according to one of the 5 options in Table 2:
2. According to the classification obtained in point 2 and using Table 3 (shown
below), calculate the following propagation parameters of the wave in the
chosen medium:
a. Propagation constant  (gamma).
b. Attenuation constant  (Alpha).
c. Phase constant  (Beta).
d. Intrinsic impedance  (Eta).

A -) Propagation constant  (gamma).

¿ √ iωσ μ o=√ i∗2 π∗1 05 +1 03∗1.2566∗1 0−6

B -) Attenuation constant  (Alpha).
¿ √ π fσ μo =√ π∗112∗10−3∗1.2566∗1 0−6
C -) Phase constant  (Beta).
i √ πf σ μ o=i √ π∗112∗1 0−3∗1.2566∗1 0−6
D -) Intrinsic impedance  (Eta).
(√ iω μo )/σ =√ ¿
Conclusions

Conclusion 1:

Conclusion 2:

The conclusions should be written with your own words and should focus on the
concepts explored, learned, discovered and practiced in the development of the
activity. It is suggested to present a conclusion by topic. Conclusions are considered
evidence of conceptual assimilation.

I strongly suggest read the written lines several times. This iterative correcting and
adjusting allows to develop clear and coherent conclusions.
