Purpose of Knuckle Joint

Flexibility

Centralizing
the Tool
below the
Jars
Tubular Jars

When there is wire or

debris present that could
foul a set of spang jars.
Hydraulic Jars

Used to create
high impact
upward jar
action.
Installed in the
toolstring
between the
Stem and
Mechanical Jars
Accelerator

Used with Hydraulic or Spring

Jars to increase the jarring
effect by imitating line stretch.
Used mainly near the surface
where there is minimum line
stretch, but can be used
effectively downhole to increase
jarring impact at the tools.
Installed in the toolstring
between the Rope Socket and
the Stem.
Spring Jars

Used for the same purposes as

Hydraulic Jars.

Spring Jars won’t gas-up.

Some designs might be longer

than Hydraulic Jars
