IMPROPER WASTE DISPOSAL RESULTING TO CANALS CLOGGED WITH TRASH

A. As we walk through the streets of Barangay 402, I have observed that mostly of the canals are
clogged with trash like plastics. We all know that canals are artificial waterways constructed for
irrigation and drainage, so if it is blocked with plastics, how will the water run through it? It can
cause flooding when there is a heavy rain and to prevent this kind of dilemma, it is important to
have clean canals. However, the people in the community is also the main cause of these trash,
because sometimes they lack discipline and knowledge about proper waste disposal.

B. As part of our NSTP program, our group can have a short briefing for the members of the
community on how to properly dispose their trash, we can also feed them knowledge about
how improper waste disposal affects the cleanliness of the community. Another way that we
can address this problem ids to have more trash bins around the community, especially near
canals so that people won’t throw their trash directly to canals because sometimes we tend to
throw trash anywhere when we can’t see trashcans. Lastly, the barangay should clean the canals
regularly.

C. As I think about these problem, I have realized that knowledge without action is dead. Why?
Because I realized that all of us in the community knows where to properly throw our wastes,
and we are all probably aware how trash can affect our environment, with all these knowledge,
we still chose to harm our environment because we lack discipline.
