OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to


- learn a list of verbs related to skills and abilities.
- construct 3 sentences using can/good and 2 sentences using cannot/
not good about the ability of a given object correctly.

- listen and answer 6 fill in the blanks questions correctly.
- listen and answer 6 true or false questions correctly.

ACTIVITIES: I. PRE-LESSON (5 minutes)

1. Pupils look at the 4 pictures of musical instruments shown and guess


the names of the instruments and what they do with it. (Pictures:
APPENDIX I)
2. Pupils listen to the explanation about skills and abilities.

Skills and abilities are tasks that you naturally do well. It is


the talents and strengths you have. For example, mathematics
skills, designing skills, advising skills and communication.

II. LESSON
Pupils are asked to take out PULSE 2 book.
PART A (20 minutes)
ACTIVITY 1

1. Pupils are instructed to listen to the audio recording 1.12 and repeat
the words for the different skills from the box in Exercise 1, PULSE
2 book chorally.
2. Pupils are ensured to pronounce the words correctly.

ACTIVITY 2
1. Pupils are asked to read the information about the talent show
contestants carefully.
2. Pupils copy and complete the introductions in their notebook using
words from word pool in Exercise 1 while listening to the audio
recording 1.13.
3. Pupils compare their answers with their partners.
4. Pupils listen and check their answers while listening to the audio
recording 1.13 again.

PART B (20 minutes)


ACTIVITY 1

1. Pupils hear audio recording 1.14 about a talent show judges talking
to some of the contestants in Exercise 2, PULSE 2 book.
2. Pupils listen carefully to the audio recording and write down the
names of the contestants that the judges are talking to.
3. Pupils check answers as a class.

ACTIVITY 2
1. Pupils are given time to read the six sentences in Exercise 5, PULSE
2 book.
2. Pupils decide if the sentences are true or false as they listen to the
audio recording 1.14 again.
3. Pupils are instructed to correct the false sentences with the right
sentences.
4. Pupils check the answers as a class.

III. POST-LESSON (15 minutes)


ACTIVITY 1 (Group Game: Guess!)

1. Pupils are assigned in groups of 5 for this activity.


2. Each group is given an envelope with a picture of an object inside
the envelope (APPENDIX II).
3. Pupils are asked to form 3 sentences using the word can/good and 2
sentences using the word cannot/ not good based on the skills and
abilities of the object shown in the picture.
4. Pupils work in groups and write out the 5 sentences on a given piece
of paper.
5. Each group presents the 5 sentences in class for other groups to
guess the picture based on the skills and abilities of the object
presented.
 The whole lesson is recapped.
REFLECTIONS: The post lesson could not be completed due to time factor. The audio
recordings was needed to play extra times because it was not loud enough.

Malay pupils also left for their prayers so classroom teaching was disturbed
in between. However, the remaining pupils engaged well to the lesson
mainly in the post lesson stage. Yet, pupils were unable to present their
sentences as time did not allow.
