Online Teaching Reflection

Teacher/Student Interactions:

The interaction between teacher and students was good enough. Most of the Students were
participating during the lesson. But I see how challenging is to teach kids online and try to grab
their attention and focus the whole time. Unlike face-to face learning. Students do not
communicate with each other much. I noticed that there is no groups or pairs activities, which is
understandable due to the fact that teaching online itself is very challenging. The teacher role is
as it is in face-to-face teaching. She encourages the students and call them name by name to
answer. She also makes sure to ask if they understand or if they need more clarification about
anything. Also, she gives them the space to ask questions if they have any.

Effective Instruction:

The learning objective of the lesson was; Students will be able to identify the color orange and
brown. The teacher started the lesson with explaining for students that today we will learn about
two new interesting colors then showed them a short song about these colors. Then she showed
the students the PowerPoint slides, and introduce the colors (brown, orange), the PowerPoint
contained different shapes and colors, some pictures of brown and orange objects and the word
brown and orange, while she showed them the PowerPoint, she asked them related questions
(e.g. who can tell me where is the brown triangle? Give me examples you see around you of
brown and orange colors) I think that these types of questions are effective in making students
develop their skills like observing, critical thinking etc. she used visuals of things that are
familiar and from the real life of the students to clarify how the colors brown and orange are
everywhere. So I think that the content presented by the teacher was connected to the objectives.

Active and Personalized Learning:

Students had the opportunity to participate during the lesson by thinking, analyzing and
observing. They were engaged to the lesson and they had the chance to express their opinions
and ask their questions if they have any. But since it is an online class and as I mentioned it is
challenging to make paired or groups activities, so most of the work and activities were whole
class activities. And students had to do their own activities in the LMS website – where teacher
put their assignments and activities for them to solve- independently.
Differentiation:

The teacher differentiates learning styles by making using visuals by showing them pictures of
familiar things from the students’ real life. Audio by playing a song in the beginning about the
two colors. And kinetic by giving them an activity to do at home which is making craft of orange
or brown things which includes cutting, gluing etc. there was no differentiation in learning
activities because students had to do everything individually since it is an online class where it is
challenging for students to work in groups or pairs.

Assessment:

The teacher gave clear instructions on what was expected from the students to do. They had to go
to the LMS where she uploaded an online game as assessment that they had to do. The
assessment was including a game where it shows them pictures of different items around them
that has with different colors and students should pick the items that had orange and brown
colors.
