AAWC Lesson Reflection (Completed after EVERY lesson taught)

Select (S):
Identify a lesson and what standards are you addressing
- Compare objects by using the vocabulary words more and less.
- Identify the Mm letter sound.

Describe (D):
What were you trying to achieve in your lesson?

In order to ensure that my students learn the Mm letter and the difference between more and less.
I integrate two subjects in one lesson.

During the introduction I start with morning routine such as, days, date, month, year and the
weather. After that I introduce the Mm letter and I showed for the students some words start with
Mm letter.

During the active engagement I showed the students video to help them to write capital M and
lower-case m and I asked them to bring paper and pencil to write with the video. After that I have
put different pictures like, kite, man, monkey, apple and mother and I asked the students to tell
me if the pictures start with M letter or not. Students was very reactive to this activity. Then I
started teaching math first, I put compare between more and less to show the students the
difference between them. Then I said, “know your turned” and I asked the students to answer the
questions.

During my formative assessment I used Nearpod to help me assess the students and, students who
did this activity that took screenshot and put it in the chat box.

Froebel believe the teacher should serve as a guide and I apply this method in my lesson first I
do, we do, you do. I just guide the students to learn and to help them to understand the concept.
(2013)

What did the students do?

I asked the students to write the Mm letter with me after they saw the video then, I asked them to
help me to find the pictures that start with Mm letter and most of the students they were able to
answer correctly. After that I start teach them math, they were able to count how many we have
but first they had a difficultly to know which is more and which is less, so I show them 3 example
and after that they were able to know the difference between them.

Analyze (A):
How well did your teaching relate to the students’ prior understanding?

Students already know counting the number from 1- 10 so when I teach them more and less, I
start asked them to count then said which is more and which is less. For example, I showed the
students 2 apples and 4 apples first, I asked the students to count how many apples we have in
first box and how many apples we have is second box then tell me which is more, and which is
less. So, the prior knowledge it's helps me to teach the students more and less.

How well did you engage the students?

Engage the students in the main activity when I asked them to bring a paper and pencil then write
with the video. In addition, I put a lot of song and I asked the students to movement with the
song. Frobel believe that movement is imperative for young learners (2013).

Why do you think the students responded the way that they did?

In the assessment, I use Nearpod link and some of the students had a problem and they can't do
the activity. I think in the other lesson I will record a video shows how to log into Nearpod.

Appraise (A):
Did your lesson meet your teaching goals?
I think 80% of the students they understand the concept and the learning outcomes because when
I saw the results in Nearpod it was good and most of the students get full mark.

Transform (T):
How might you enhance student learning of this lesson in the future?

I did not use activity much in my lesson because of the online learning and I was not able to
apply the activities electronically but, next time I will use activities and look for how to do it
through the online learning.
Froebel believes that play is purposeful and not idle, that meaning is created through hands-on
play activities (2013).

What are the implications for your professional practice?

I think we the teacher use hands- on activity that help students to understand the concept more
than just explain. In addition, hands- on activity help teacher to engage the students and the class
will be more interactive.
