2. Area of Parallelogram

The area of a parallelogram whose sides are

y = m1x + c1, y = m1x + c2, y = m2x + d1 and y = m2x + d2

is given by
Example Find the area of parallelogram whose sides are x - 3y + 18 = 0,
9x - 5y + 8 = 0, 9x - 5y - 14 = 0, x - 3y - 4 = 0
Family of
Lines
Family of Lines
Any line passing through the point of intersection of the lines

L1: a1x+b1y+c1 = 0 and

L2: a2x+b2y+c2 = 0 can be defined as

(a1x+b1y+c1) + 𝝺 (a2x+b2y+c2) = 0,
where 𝝺 ∈ R.
Example Find the equation of the straight line which passes through the point
(2, - 3) and the point of intersection of the lines x + y + 4 = 0 and
3x - y - 8 = 0.
Example Obtain the equations of the lines passing through the intersection of
lines 4x - 3y - 1 = 0 and 2x - 5y + 3 = 0 and equally inclined to the axes.
Example If 2a - 3b + 6c = 0, the family of straight lines ax + by + c = 0 passes
through a fixed point. Find the coordinates of the fixed point.
Example The family of lines x(a - 2b) + y(a – 5b) = a + b passes through a fixed
point for all values of a and b. Find the coordinates of the fixed point.
