GRAMMAR:
PLURAL NOUNS
To make the plural nouns of the most nouns add – s. In some cases, you add es and
you change ies.
1. Most nouns only add – s
Examples: pen = pens, cup= cups

2. When the noun ends with consonant + y; change y to i and add – es

Examples: baby = babies, city= cities

3. When the noun ends with vowel + y; add – s

Examples: toy = toys, day= days

4. When the noun ends with fe or f; change f to v + s or es

Examples: wife = wives, thief= thieves

5. When the noun ends with sh, ch, ss, x; add es

Examples: dish= dishes, match= matches, class= classes, box= boxes

6. When the noun ends with consonant + o; add – es

Examples: tomato = tomatoes, potato= potatoes

7. When the noun ends with vowel + o; add – s

Examples: zoo = zoos, radio= radios
