THE PROS OF GAMING

Ever since I can remember I have always been fascinated by video games being 5 or 6

playing on my dad’s Xbox being amazed at how there could be a whole different world

on the screen being someone or something else. Now being seventeen I still enjoy

playing video games and though many may think that video games are a waste of time

or an addiction. There are still many pros to gaming, of course, there are cons just like

with everything else in life. But the pros outweigh the cons, for example, it can help

improve brain speed and It could be a great source of learning and for many, it's a great

distraction.

Video games help you with how fast your brain can take information for example in

action first-person shooter games your brain is constantly needing to take new

information you need to be looking out for sound and look at your surrounding for

enemies. Research shows that players who were like to play fast-paced games were 25

percent faster in reacting to questions about an image they had just seen compared to

people who do not play video games. Adventure games like red dead redemption and

half-life make the player search their surroundings for an important item which in turn

can make you look for your key and other valued items in different places than before.

Another benefit that video games provide is hand-eye coordination, University of Texas

Medical Branch brought together a group of high school kids, college students, and

medical residents to play a virtual surgery game. when the game was over the high
schooler outperformed everyone because they played more video games than the other

groups although the medical residents would do better in real surgery. This study

proves that video games help improve our brains.

Contrary to popular belief that video games can make you distracted or are bad for

school there are many studies that say otherwise. One of these games is Kahoot it’s a

multiple question game that allows the host to make a topic this game has helped many

teachers keep their students attentive. Another pro is that most games are based upon

histories like Call Of Duty, Battlefield, Red Dead Redemption, and Total War and so

many more. Many of these games not only bring the user curiosity about the time period

but also bring to their attention to the culture and it may want to make the user go to a

website, museum, and libraries to learn more about what happened during those times.

It can also help with geography many students nowadays don't know where many of our

countries are located video games can help with that by setting an example is the

strategy game total war this game focuses on a certain time period and continent or

country. Some of their best selling games have focused on the Roman Empire and

Europe, the shogun time period in Japan, and the Victorian era which focuses on

Europe and North America. These games all focus and a time period and a certain

geological area with many factions you can play as. These are just a few examples but

it also proves the various ways that videogames are and can be helpful
Video games can also be a good distraction video game that has been shown to

reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, for example, A study reported that the

game Tetris may actually ease the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. In

forums such as Geek and Sundry, authors describe how video games help those who

have social anxiety disorder learn how to initiate relationships and learn about social

cues. Another thing is that they can be a distraction from something else like smoking,

drinking, and eating too much. Games can also replace unhealthy choices with an

activity that promotes better health. People who play video games, especially

puzzle-based games, can experience fewer cravings when they play on a regular basis.

Playing video games can also be a good distraction when you have pain by distracting

ourselves from pain by paying attention to something else or focusing on other body

mechanisms, but that’s not the only reason why games are a good post-injury

prescription. Playing can actually produce a pain-killing response in our higher cortical

systems. Overall video games are a good distraction and have helped many people

during tough times.

In conclusion, there are many pros to video games, these are just the few that I could

explain well and dive into. These examples not only show how important video games

can be but also why your kid should be able to use their games as long its use in a

healthy amount.
