Multiple Intelligence Go to School: Educational Implications of the Theory of Multiple Intelligence

Topic/Lesson

1. Difficult Concepts (What concepts did you find difficult to understand?)

i. I find it confusing that the concept of categorizing a human’s intellectual capacity through
“body-kinesthetic” because it is contradicting. I believe that dancing and other skills that are
related to physical movement require bodily skills and not intellect.
ii. I thought that the title of the article is all about a very intelligent person with so called
“multiple intelligence”
iii. I was confused in the seven-intelligence, I had to look it up in the internet.

2. Insights (What new insights or learnings did you gain in discussion/ activity?)

i. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that there were two kinds of
people, the smart people and the "dumb" people. I believed that some were smart enough to
invest in education while some are dumb to be lazy. However, reading the
article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize that every people has their own strengths
and weaknesses.

ii. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought people that are good at math
and science are smarter than the rest of the people. However, reading the
article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize that the education system that we are
practicing right now favors the learning and enhancing skills that are related to math and
sciences.

iii. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics has the biggest contributions in the world for they bring great
tangible results. However, reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize
that we should stop the stigma with non-STEM related courses for everyone's betterment.
Gardner's Multiple Intelligence might still be a theory, but even so, it is a logical explanation
on why some people lack skills in science and mathematics, when in fact, every human used
the same organ for science and mathematics: the brain.
3. Questions (What questions would you want answers for? Or vague areas you want more
explanations about?
i. I would like to ask the seven-intelligence distinction that was proposed by Gardner could
be a basis for intelligence or if other categories can be just considered as hobbies.
ii. I would like to know if there are enough empirical research to support this theory.
iii. Lastly, I would like to know if the MI theory is good to apply in the educational system
of the preschoolers where the development is critical.
