Description & Sequence

Lifting of Weight Block
of lift’s:
1. Supervisor to conduct TBT with the operatives and discuss the procedure stated on this lift plan.
Supervisor to check all necessary legal documents to be present and available.
2. Once the area of operation is clear, the supervisor will advise the mobile crane operator to mobilize
his crane onto the crane rigging area and rig the mobile crane as per crane manufacturer’s
instruction and LOLER 1998 regulation.
Safety Check
a. Supervisor and operator to check and ensure that access and egress are clear, ground condition
are level and compacted enough to support the load impose by the mobile crane and outrigger
b. Supervisor to ensure presence of flagman during the mobilisation of the mobile crane to the
rigging area.
c. Supervisor to check and ensure exclusion zones and watchmen are in position before rigging the
mobile crane.
d. Supervisor to ensure that no non operative personnel are inside the exclusion zone.
3. Once the mobile crane has been rigged, the lifting crew will attach the mobile crane slings to the
weight block.
4. Connect the mobile crane slings to the weight block lifting points and lift off the ground to check
integrity if the load is balanced and secured then continue weight block to the trailer.

Load Angle Factor

Sling Angle (A) Load Angle Factor Load Calculation Per Sling Leg
90º 1.000 1. Take the total weight of the load and divide this by
the number of legs supporting the load. (Example –
85º 1.004
a 2.00T load is to be supported by 2 legs of a sling.
80º 1.015 The above will give a minimum weight for each leg
of the sling, 2.00T divided by 2 (number of legs on
75º 1.035
sling) = 1.00T minimum per leg.
70º 1.064 2. Determine the load factor by observing the Load
65º 1.104 Angle Factor chart. (Example – leg angle = 60º, the
load factor for 60º from the chart is 1.155.
60º 1.155 3. Multiply the load factor with the minimum load per
55º 1.221 leg (1.155 x 1.00T = 1.155T Actual load per sling
leg).
50º 1.305
4. The rated sling capacity needed is 1.155T x 2 =
45º 1.414 2.31T WLL.
40º 1.555
Note: other methods of calculation may be used,
35º 1.742
depending on the load to be lifted. Mark if
30º 2.000 applicable.

however, include the crane driver who must concentrate on operating the crane.

Banksman / Flagman – The Banksman / Flagman are only to control Mobile Plant and Equipment or
assist with the movement of Cranes from one point to another, when the crane isn’t in use.

Weather Conditions
The Appointed Person or, in his absence, the Crane Supervisor, will ensure that the lifting operation
only takes place if the weather conditions are within the limits recommended by the crane manufacturer
and local regulation.
